Hyde Product and How-To Videos

Heavy duty carbide blade will last 10 times longer than conventional blades. Ergonomically shaped soft-grip handle fits the fist for more leverage and less fatigue, while keeping the hand safely away from the scraping surface. The angled head positions blade for maximum paint scraping efficiency and power. A 2-1/2" 2-edge carbide blade included.

If you have to do it manually... Review by KlessS

I've used this scraper on six window frames, and it is comfortable to use and effective at removal. These are basement windows, so the frames are very basic. The scraper would not be much good on something fancier because of the width of the blade. That said, the cheapo paint scrapers that use softer steel and screech like banshees hold nothing over this tool.

It is much easier to avoid damage to the wood with this tool than with the cheapo versions because the paint is literally cracking under the edge and comes spitting off. (At least on my windows, which must have 8 or 9 coats on them). The pull knob makes so much sense it is unbelievable that any other design has ever been used. I suppose on a ladder it works better to use one hand. (The knob can be removed.)

It will not get everything off every time! I did have to resort other methods on large flat areas that had no sharp edge for the blade to bite into, or were very uneven underneath. For areas up to 3/4 width of the blade, this scraper is great. There is much less dust than sanding. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll bet this would be effective at removing varnish as well.

The blades are more expensive, of course, but do last longer. I went through two double-sided blades to do the six windows inside and out. A fresh edge is very noticeable. I went out today and picked up a diamond knife sharpener for fifteen and managed to get the blade edges back to near-shaving quality in ten minutes. Pick up an extra blade or two when you purchase the Hyde, because I've had trouble locating them at local stores. (Posted on 2/20/2014)
Surprisingly excellent tool Review by carealot

Scrapes bumps .off of painted wall better than any other tool I have ever owned. Blade stays sharp for a very long time. I bought this as a second tool of the same kind I had so my son-in-law could work with one at the same time and keep it for the future. Amazing blade is brittle, so do not drip tool on cement surface. (Posted on 2/20/2014)
Pull knob provides better control Review by Steve

Knob lets you apply more pressure and better control the direction of the blade, so, a much more efficient scraper. (Posted on 2/20/2014)
Time saver Review by Anthony

Every once in a while I purchase an item that works so well I wonder how I ever lived without it. This is one of those items. Before I purchased this I was refinishing the steps in my front foyer stripping the old finish with chemical stripper. I used a soy based stripper that isn't all that toxic, it worked, but it was still messy and time consuming. I purchased this tool just after completion of that project. It would have saved me a ton of time had I known. My front foyer only contains 3 steps. It took me nearly 4 days to get down through the old varnish with the stripper and scraping with a putty knife. I decided to refinish the steps leading to my second floor. With this tool I had stripped all 12 steps down in about an hours time. Made for much less sanding in the end. I also used it to remove dried landscape adhesive from some concrete retaining wall blocks I reused. Worked great for that too. Stripped paint off wood like it never even dried on there. You do have to be careful not to gouge the wood though. All in all it's worth its weight in gold for the time it has saved me over numerous projects. Blades can be resharpened a few times with a cheapy harbor freight diamond block. (Posted on 2/20/2014)
