Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • This patented multi-tool is the perfect worksite addition for any pro – but especially for pro painters who work with spray equipment.
  • It accomplishes all the more common multi-tool functions (scrape flat surfaces and contours, spread putty, open out cracks, open bottles, pull nails or pound them in) but also incorporates many new ones.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • The wash-bucket immersion life — it's carbon, not stainless; a tool that lives all day in latex wants the stainless Pro tools or a wipe-down every time.
  • Fine feathering — no stiff blade feathers, and a 3" one least of all.
  • And it is honestly overkill for a simple interior touch-up: if you don't run spray equipment and don't need the wrenches, scribe, and nail set, the 10-in-1 (06920) or a 6-in-1 carries every function you'll actually touch at less weight.
  • The 06985 is bought by the painter whose day genuinely spans the sprayer, the walls, and the trim — for that painter nothing else in the line replaces it.

How the pros run it

01

The .072" blade is a pry bar you can trust

it is the one tool in this family thick enough to lever hard without taking a set, so it's the multi-tool for the stubborn lid, the seized fitting, the wedged trim. Carbon-steel care applies: wipe the blade dry after wet work and oil it for storage — a .072" carbon blade rusts as readily as a thin one if neglected, and it's too good a tool to let bloom. Keep the HammerHead recess and bit pockets clean so the four bits seat and the head strikes true. The wrenches want no technique beyond respect for pressure — relieve the spray system first. Grip: the overmold carries the weight of the heaviest tool in the line comfortably; choke up for scrape control, slide back for hammering and wrenching leverage.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
What makes it a spray tool?
The two whip-hose wrenches — 3/4" and 11/16" — that connect and break the hose between gun and line. No other tool in the family has them.
How wide and thick is the blade?
3" wide and .072" thick — the widest carbon blade and the thickest blade in the whole line, heavy enough to pry with.
What are the 17?
Hyde highlights: scrape flats and contours, spread putty, open cracks, open bottles, pull/pound nails (HammerHead), clean rollers and mini-rollers, 2 wrenches, 4 bits (#1 & #2 flat/Phillips), nail set, scribe. Reconstructs to 17 (Hyde doesn't number them 1–17).
Carbon or stainless?
Carbon — wipe it dry after wet work. For a wash-bucket tool, the stainless 06988 is the 3" alternative.
Is it really patented?
Yes — Patent No. D756735 (a design patent; the only patent-marked tool in the line).
