CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Epoxies — the 434xx family bar applies to every member of the paint tier, this one included; a curing resin on polypropylene is a discarded tool.
  • Joint compound, texture, grout, mortar — the paint tier is a liquids tier; stiff materials belong to the welded-steel Mudslingers.
  • Five-gallon pails — seven inches of shaft in a fourteen-inch-deep bucket puts the drill in the paint; pail work starts at the 43430's 17-1/2" and runs up.
  • Deep gallon containers — even a gallon at the bottom of a taller vessel outruns this shaft; that specific case is why the 11" 43420 exists.
  • And hand stirring — it is not a stir stick with ambitions; without a drill it is an awkward paddle, and the line's actual doctrine for stick-sufficient cans is "use a stick."

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL

How the pros run it

01

Feather, always

the smallest containers give speed the least room; the low end of the trigger is the working range. Bottom-first: the head starts on the can floor and spends most of the job near it — settlement is a floor problem. Submerged spin: trigger on only with the head in the material; trigger off before it comes out. In a quart the free surface is close to the head at all times, which makes this rule stricter here than anywhere else in the line. Wrist steering: use the short shaft's control — park the head on stubborn spots; that precision is the tool's edge. Seat the shank: full depth in the chuck, all jaws snug; short tools telegraph a sloppy grip instantly. After: rinse wet, dry the shaft regardless of the open material question, hang.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
What drill does it need?
A 3/8" drill, per Hyde's own row — the ordinary drill nearly every household owns. Variable speed matters; power doesn't, at this scale.
Is the shaft 1/4" hex?
A store listing says so; the accepted catalog claim says only "hexagonal" . It seats in any three-jaw chuck either way; quick-change collet fit is unpromised until the flat is verified.
How many blades does "Multi-Blade" mean?
Unstated in every accepted claim . The name promises a multi-element head; this guide asserts no count or geometry.
Can it do a 5-gallon bucket?
No — seven inches of shaft cannot reach a pail floor with the drill above the rim. The 43430 is the tier's pail tool.
Epoxy, compound, grout?
No, no, and no. The paint tier is liquids-only and carries a flat epoxy bar; stiff materials and resins belong to the steel Mudslinger tier.
Will it rust?
The element is polypropylene — no. The shaft's material is unresolved in the record ; dry it after rinsing and the question never costs you anything.
Why not just use a stir stick?
For a maintained can, do. The 43460 exists for hard settle — the packed floor a stick rides over — where continuous powered shear at the bottom is the only thing that works.
