Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • 18 gauge high carbon chrome vanadium steel blade. Hardened, tempered, ground and honed to precise tolerances for every cutting job. Blade measures 4-3/4"x3/8"x.049".
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Not edge-started cutting.
  • If every cut begins at the material's edge and runs inward, a bevel-point blade's working corner is the right tool and the lance point's piercing tip is wasted.
  • Not contour steering — a swept curved line wants the curve point, not a symmetric straight piercer.
  • Not a pry or a chisel — the CrV buys flex tolerance, not immunity to a lever; the tip snaps if you torque it.
  • Not a heat blade — for high-friction synthetics that round carbon and CrV edges alike, the HSS blades are the answer.

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
What's a lance point for?
Starting a cut in the middle of the material. You plunge the symmetric point through the sheet away from any edge, then draw the cut — internal cutouts, slits, and openings a bevel corner can't begin.
How is it different from a bevel-point blade?
Two things: the point (a piercing entry tool vs a working corner) and the steel (chrome-vanadium vs plain high-carbon). Plunge-start cuts buy the lance point; edge-start cuts buy the bevel point.
Why chrome-vanadium?
Hyde specifies the alloy; the trade reason is that CrV takes repeated flexing and shock without fatigue-cracking, which suits a slender blade that gets levered as it pierces. The alloy is Hyde-stated; the rationale is ours.
What's the real size?
4-3/4" × 3/8" × .049" (18-gauge), from Hyde's own description. The catalog's "4-4/3"" is a typo the official description corrects.
Do I need to protect anything under the cut?
Yes — the point goes straight through the work, so plunge over a sacrificial surface or a lifted pinch of material, every time.
