Bottom-first: settlement and factory-stiff mud both live at the floor; start there, earn the surface. Trigger discipline in thin material: liquids give a mid head an easy ride — resist the invitation; speed's only products are vortex, sling, and foam. Read the load: surging drill = still breaking material; level drill = circulation achieved. Transitions submerged: trigger on at the floor, dead stop before the head clears. Wash on the clock of the material: paint is patient, mud is same-hour, epoxy is now.

What drill does it need?
Any 3/8"-chuck drill with variable speed. It shares the tier's most accessible drill class with its 16" shaft-twin; no 1/2" low-rpm machine required.
Will it mix a full pail of joint compound?
Everyday ready-mix, yes — bottom-first, slow, perimeter-deliberate (2a). The stiffest cold box mud is honestly the 46560's job; a 2-1/4" head channels in it.
Can it mix through the pour spout?
No — that is the one thing in the tier it structurally cannot do. Spout work belongs to the 46540 (steel) and StirWhip (nylon).
Epoxy?
Rated, yes — the family row includes epoxies (2d). Blend on the maker's clock, no whipped air, wash immediately. The 434xx paint tier is barred from this material entirely.
Why not just buy the bigger 46560?
If your work is mud-first, do. The 46555 exists because loose materials — paint, sealer, skim-consistency mud — mix cleaner under a head that isn't oversized for them.
My finish coat shows pinholes — the mixer's fault?
Likely whipped-in air: too fast, or blades near the surface. Slow and submerged is the entire prevention; let an aerated batch rest before skimming (2b).
How do I know the pail is done?
Level drill load, a floor that sweeps clean, blades lifting smooth lump-free material, and — for liquids — a one-color fold at the surface with no thin streaks.
