Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Versatile Mixing: Mixes a variety of materials including cement, mortar, paint, and adhesives.
  • Durable Construction: Features a 3/8" plated steel shaft and non-stick polypropylene impeller blades that resist wear and tear.
  • Bucket-Friendly Design: Polypropylene impellers minimize bucket damage and ensure easy cleaning.
CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Drums — 24" ends at pail-and-tub depth, and the 55-gallon rating belongs to the 28" 09059 alone.
  • The hardest steel-vessel masonry work — dense mortar in steel wheelbarrows and the brutal end of cementitious mixing is the twin 09105's brief, with its stacked steel impellers and 1/2" low-rpm drill class.
  • Sealed pails and pour spouts — a 5" head has no path through a spout; the 46540 and StirWhip own through-the-lid conditioning.
  • Bench cans, quarts, gallons of house paint — the paint tier's short shafts steer that scale, and a 5" head in a gallon can is a rotor in a phone booth.
  • And nothing here hand-stirs: like every member of this line, the 09114 is a drill accessory or it is nothing.

How the pros run it

01

Slow, submerged, moving

the line's whole doctrine — and the largest impeller diameter in the line gives speed the most leverage to do harm; the trigger lives low. Water first, powder on top: every from-dry batch this tool exists for follows the same charge order. Bottom-first, ring-deliberate: settled solids and dry pockets both hide at the wall-floor junction; the head visits it every orbit. Load respect: a 3/8"-class drill is sufficient, not infinite — surging is normal during wet-out, lugging is a signal to slow, and a hot drill rests. Submerged transitions: trigger on at the floor, dead stop before the head clears the surface. Wash on the material's clock: poly forgives everything except being ignored past cure.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
What drill does it need?
A 3/8" chuck or larger, per Hyde — the ordinary drill. It is the heavy tier's only member without a 1/2" low-rpm requirement (2h).
Wet/Dry — meaning what?
Hyde's own claim: a thorough mix whether ingredients start wet or dry. In practice, the tier's tool for wetting out bagged powders — water first, powder on top, slow (2a).
Will it scratch my bucket?
The opposite is its pitch: "Polypropylene impellers minimize bucket damage." Poly on plastic is the whole design logic (§1).
How many blades does it have?
Unstated in every accepted claim — Hyde specifies a 5"-diameter impeller and says no more; this guide follows suit.
Epoxy on plastic blades — really?
The family row rates it (2f). The discipline is the wash: liquid resin releases from non-stick poly under immediate washing; cured resin never releases from anything. The 434xx paint tier remains barred.
Cement and mortar?
Family-rated at patch-and-batch scale (2g), with silica discipline while charging powder. The brutal steel-vessel end belongs to the 09105.
09114 or 46560 for a finisher?
Dry-mix habit and keeper pails → 09114. Ready-mix knockdown and a handier all-steel head → 46560 (§5).
Why did my skim coat pit?
Air whipped in at mixing — too fast, or blades near the surface. Slow, submerged, and a rest for any whipped batch before skimming (2b, 2c).
