Rig first

low-rpm 1/2"-class drill, side handle mounted, feet set — at this reach, setup is technique. Walk it down: head down the container wall to the floor, tip touching, blades hovering — then trigger. Columnar thinking: drums mix as columns; floor orbit plus long vertical strokes, and patience measured in minutes. Low rpm is load-bearing: sling, aeration, and heat are all speed artifacts, and all worse at depth. Submerged transitions: trigger on at the floor; dead stop before the head clears the surface — two feet of travel is a long way to remember that rule late. Never power a stall: lugging means brace and slow, or a bigger machine — not a harder trigger. Wash on the chemical clock: cement and resin do not negotiate.

Will it reach the bottom of a 55-gallon drum?
That is its rating and its name — 5 to 55-gallon containers, with 28" of shaft and an anti-bottoming tip that touches down before the blades do.
What drill do I need?
A 1/2"-or-larger low-rpm electric drill — the spade-handle mixing class, side handle fitted (2f). A fast pistol drill is the wrong machine regardless of its chuck.
Is the shaft 1/2" or 3/8"?
Hyde's two sources disagree — the product page says 1/2", the catalog family row says 3/8" hexagonal . This guide promises the drill class, not a shank dimension, until that resolves.
Cement and mortar?
Family-rated and core duty (2d) — water first, gentle powder charging, silica-dust discipline while the mix is dry.
Epoxy?
Rated (2e): deep-vessel blends within pot life, low rpm, instant wash. The 434xx paint tier is barred from epoxy; this tier is not.
Drywall compound?
Hyde's description lists it — at bulk/large-container scale. Pail-scale daily mud is better served by the Mudslingers and the 24" heavies; this guide routes those jobs there.
Why does the shaft stick out below the impeller?
By design — the family row states it: the tip extends 1/2" below the blades so the shaft, not the impeller, contacts the container floor. Protection for both.
Can I mix through a drum's bung hole?
No — open-head access only. No impeller in this line passes a bung.
