CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • High Carbon Steel Blade: Stiff blade for tough scraping tasks, individually ground, polished, and clear-coated.
  • Solvent-Resistant Hardwood Handle: Durable handle designed to withstand harsh chemicals and prolonged use.
  • Heavy-Duty Performance: Stiff blade excels in scraping and removing stubborn materials.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Filling, wide removal, and heavy excavation.
  • Stiff blades cannot conform — asked to wipe filler or glazing smooth, the 07060 ploughs and leaves ridges at its corners; filling is the flexible sibling's job (07010, or 07110 one size up).
  • It is also the narrow scraper: for a broad blister field or a wide strip-down, the 1-1/2" (07160) clears more per pass and the 1-1/4" just works the area twice.
  • And it is a standard .055" stiff, not an excavator — driven into cured epoxy, gasket cement, or decades-thick encrusted finish it will flex and chatter where a thicker, chisel-ground blade would dig; when the job turns to excavation at this width, the .075" chisel-edged 07210 is the same-width step up.
  • Lead-paint boundary: in any structure painted before 1978, assume old coats contain lead — dry-scraping produces hazardous dust, and EPA RRP-compliant containment and wet methods apply.

How the pros run it

01

Low angle, always

15–30° so the edge shears material off the surface rather than chiseling into it. Push for power, pull for control: on a bench, pulling toward you gives the fine control that protects a workpiece. Narrow concentrates force: 1-1/4" is chosen to put your whole push into a small edge and to reach tight channels — lean on that, and step wider (07160) when the field is broad. Keep the carbon keen: dress the clear-coated high-carbon edge square with a mill file when it dents or rolls — a keen edge protects the surface, a dull one scars it. Not a struck tool: never hammer this hardwood-riveted knife's spine; if the job needs striking, it needs a hacking knife or a chisel. Solvent is home: the hardwood handle is built for the stripper bench; wipe the carbon blade dry after any water-based work.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Scrape or fill?
Scrape — it's the stiff removal blade. Filling is the flexible sibling's job (07010).
Why the narrow 1-1/4"?
To concentrate pressure and reach caulk joints, glazing rabbets, and tight corners a wider blade rides over.
Can I use it to remove old window glazing?
Yes, as the assist — popping released sections and cleaning the rabbet after a hacking knife breaks the putty loose. Never hammer its spine; it's not a struck tool.
Why carbon and hardwood instead of stainless?
Carbon hones back to the keenest scraping edge, and the hardwood handle is built for a solvent bench — the refinisher's combination.
Will it rust?
Clear-coated to resist it, but wipe it dry after water-based work — the coat guards the faces, not the edge.
It flexes on hardened epoxy — wrong knife?
For excavation at this width, step to the .075" chisel 07210; the 07060 is the standard scraper.
Can I scrape old paint with it?
Yes, but if the building predates 1978 assume lead paint and follow EPA RRP wet-scraping and containment practice.
