CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • High Carbon Steel Blade: Stiff blade for tough scraping tasks, individually ground, polished, and clear-coated.
  • Solvent-Resistant Hardwood Handle: Durable handle designed to withstand harsh chemicals and prolonged use.
  • Heavy-Duty Performance: Stiff blade excels in scraping and removing stubborn materials.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Filling, fine detail, and heavy demolition.
  • A stiff blade cannot conform — asked to wipe filler or glazing smooth it ploughs and leaves tram-lines at its corners; filling is the flexible 07110's job.
  • It is also the general-width scraper, not the detail one: for a narrow caulk joint, a tight glazing rabbet, or carved molding, the 1-1/4" (07060) fits where the 1-1/2" bridges.
  • And it is a standard .055" stiff, not a pry bar — driven into cured epoxy fields or lifted underlayment it will flex where a bent, riveted demolition scraper belongs; wide, leveraged floor and adhesive-field work is the 12010's job, and heavy same-width excavation the .075" chisel 07210's.
  • Use the 07160 as the shop's general strip blade, which is what it is best at.

How the pros run it

01

Low angle is the rule

15–30° so the edge shears material off rather than chiseling in. Push for power, pull for control: push-scrape broad faces, pull-scrape trim and edges you don't want to damage. Find the boundary: work outward until the blade rides sound, bonded material — that transition is what a stiff blade is for. Width for coverage: 1-1/2" clears a useful swath per pass; step to the narrow 07060 for tight channels and detail. Keep the carbon keen: dress the clear-coated high-carbon edge square with a mill file when it dents or rolls — a keen edge protects the surface. Not a struck tool: never hammer the hardwood-riveted spine. Lead safety: pre-1978 buildings, assume lead paint and follow EPA RRP wet methods.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Scrape or fill?
Scrape — the general-width strip blade. Filling is the flexible twin's job (07110).
Why 1-1/2"?
It's the do-most removal width — clears a blister or a strip of failed finish in a pass while keeping pressure concentrated.
Can I scrape old paint with it?
Yes — that's its core job. But pre-1978 buildings: assume lead paint and follow EPA RRP wet-scraping and containment.
Why carbon and hardwood?
Carbon hones back to the keenest scraping edge; the hardwood handle is built for a stripper bench. It's the finisher's strip knife.
Will it rust?
Clear-coated to resist it — wipe it dry after water-based work anyway; the coat guards the faces, not the edge.
What should I pair it with?
The same-width flexible 07110 — strip with this stiff, fill with the flex; together they're the small-repair system.
It chatters on hardened epoxy — wrong knife?
For excavation, step to the .075" chisel 07210; the 07160 is the general scraper.
