  • A tool you want to keep. If you'll do this V-notch work more than once and want a spreader that cleans up and lasts, buy the steel — the handled Value Series 04124 or the bare-plate 19110 — not this.
  • Floor and wet-area tile. Cementitious thinset on a floor or in a shower wants a square notch (19050/19070); a V spreader of any material is the wrong bed for it.
  • Resilient sheet goods. Sheet vinyl and VCT want fine U/square vinyl meters laid paint-thin; a 3/16" V is the wrong profile and too open, and would telegraph through the finished floor.
  • The square-notch jobs. Rubber and plastic sheet, or fine even tile beds, are a square-notch job — its plastic sibling 05534, or the steel fine squares — not this V.
  • Heavy bodied adhesive that wants a full bead. The wider 1/4" V (04124 in steel) carries more film; a 3/16" V runs leaner.

Spread at a consistent ~45°; flatter starves the bond, steeper over-delivers. One direction, straight ridges

swirls trap air. Use a fresh spreader for each pour of a job long enough to soften the edge; the whole point is that a spare costs less than a bad bed. And because the disposable spreader is the natural tool for solvent-based adhesives, this is the page that has to say it: work those with real ventilation and no ignition sources — solvent contact and construction adhesives give off flammable vapor while they flash, and the disposable-blade convenience does nothing to change the room's air. Is the plastic one as accurate as the steel?
On the first pass, yes — the molded V meters the same bead as the steel 19110. The difference is longevity: the plastic edge softens with use and is a one-job meter, not a lifetime one.
Why would I buy plastic instead of steel?
Because solvent and construction adhesives are miserable to clean off a blade, and this costs less than the labor and solvent to salvage a steel spreader. Spread, let it skin, throw it out.
What does 3/16" × 5/32" mean?
The first figure, 3/16", is the notch width; the second is the catalog's remaining dimension, quoted without interpreting it as depth or spacing .
Can I set a shower or floor with it?
No — that is thinset-and-square-notch work (19050/19070). This V is for dry-wall mastic tile, wallboard, and metal.
Any safety note?
Yes: it is the natural tool for solvent-based adhesives, so ventilate and keep ignition sources away, per the adhesive label.
