✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Not cutting — it is the durable, not the consumable.
  • Not any blade on this mill line: the 9/16"/5/8"/3/4" patterns need the 63055/63085/63080 handles — the 63170 holds a 3/8" blade only.
  • Not the flat-sided extension blades the 57620/57630/57660/57680 handles serve — a separate family; don't cross them despite the shared wood-and-aluminum look.
  • And not the fatigue answer — it has no soft grip; a station losing hands to a full shift of fine cutting wants the MAXXGRIP 63175 at the same 3/8" width.

How the pros run it

01

Positive clamp, checked tight

"Positive blade length adjustment" holds your exposure setting, but the screws still want checking before a run and after the first cuts — a 3/8" curved or pointed blade is unforgiving of a loose clamp. Exposure as a setting — short for control, longer for reach, re-extended as the blade hones down. Care for the wood — keep the contoured hardwood from long solvent soaks and it will outlast a polymer grip on a rough bench. Match the family, not just the width — 3/8" is necessary but not sufficient; confirm the blade pattern belongs to this handle rather than assuming any 3/8" handle interchanges with the flat-sided family.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Does it include a blade?
No — the handle only, and the 3/8" blade it holds is sold on an adjacent line's pages, not this one.
Which blades fit?
3/8"-wide neighbor-line blades — the bevel-/curve-/sharp-/lance-point extension blades and the double-end hook blades (4" × 3/8"). Hyde's exact words: "Handle will hold 3/8" blade."
Will a 3/4" mill blade fit?
No — that is the 63080's or 63085's capacity. This handle is keyed to 3/8" only.
Is it the same as the 57620/57630/57660/57680 handles?
No — those are a separate flat-sided family, even though they are also wood-and-aluminum. Match your specific blade pattern; don't assume they interchange.
63170 or 63175?
Both hold a 3/8" blade; neither cuts better. The 63170 (hardwood/aluminum) is for traditional feel and harsh benches; the 63175 (soft grip) for fatigue and all-day work.
What is "BG15"?
This handle's pattern code — carried as an exact-model identifier in Hyde's own record, not a store-title guess.
