Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Not reach or long draws — at 3-7/8" it is a short blade, and any cut that has to travel wants a 6"-plus blade or the 9" 086 (62180).
  • Not high-count soft-fiber work: a burler or spinner slicing yarn, thread, and cloth all day wants a light limber flat blade (62030/62090), not a rigid .109" stub.
  • Not a wide cut — the whole point of this blade is a narrow line of force; when the job wants a broad wedge, the 5/8"-and-up blades serve better (including its own sibling stub, the wider 63020).
  • Not a finished knife — a bare blade needs its handle.
  • And not the bevel duty: material that rolls a thin edge and wants a facet behind it belongs to the bevel blades, not to this flat grind built to push straight.

How the pros run it

01

Drive straight, cut narrow

The 9/16" width is an asset only if you keep the cut in line with the blade — a narrow stiff blade rewards a clean straight push and punishes a twist, which loads the thin face sideways and can chip even HSS. Short exposure. Set out only the blade the cut needs; the stub's value is force at the hand, and extra exposure trades that for flex and risk. Change, don't grind. HSS keeps its edge far past a carbon blade's but is slower to re-hone; run it to wear and feed a fresh blade, with only a light stone touch-up in between — heavy re-grinding throws away the wear-life you paid for. Mind the clamp. High-force cutting drives the load into the set screws; check them tight before the run and keep exposure minimal.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why so narrow?
9/16" — the narrowest in the line — drives your force into the smallest kerf, for hard cuts that must go in narrow and stay straight. The .109" spine keeps that line rigid.
Is it HSS if the variant tag says "Standard"?
Yes — the catalog exact-model name carries HSS and the line doc resolves it as HSS; the "Standard" variant tag is a known data artifact .
What handle fits it?
Only a 9/16"-capacity handle: the 63055 MAXXGRIP (9/16"+5/8"). The 63085 and the 63080 do not take a 9/16" blade — a real constraint if your station runs those.
62930 or 63020?
Both are HSS .109" stubs; the 62930 is longer (3-7/8") and narrower (9/16", 63055-only), the 63020 shorter (3") and wider (5/8", either MAXXGRIP). Existing handle and whether you want a narrow kerf decide.
Good for cloth or yarn?
No — buy a light limber flat blade for that. This is a narrow, stiff, high-force blade for dense stock.
