The 080 is the thinnest, narrowest standard blade in the line precisely so it can be light — which means it is the wrong blade for tire cord, filled synthetics, or rubber stock that would eat its edge and flex its thin section (that is the HSS blades' and the bevel grinds' territory).
It is not a reach blade — nine inches of 086 (62180) does the long draw the 080 cannot.
It is not a stub — the .109" heavies (63020, 62930, other subsets) take the short high-force cuts the 080 would bend under.
And it is not a slabbing blade for heavy roll build-up.
The set screw is a stiffness control as much as a clamp: short exposure makes even this thin blade rigid for controlled detail cuts; long exposure trades rigidity for reach and lets the .065" steel flex. Run it short for frame and table work.

Hone the flat, keep it flat
The 080's flat grind is a gift to the sharpener — lay the bevel on a bench stone and the geometry is self-jigging. Touch up at the bench between changes; take the burr off the back with a light pass; do not round the edge over with too steep a stroke. The keen, low-drag edge is the blade's whole point, and a flat grind rewards a flat stone.

Wipe it dry
High-carbon Standard steel blooms rust where stainless would shrug. Working over damp fiber, sizing, or finish, wipe the blade down at the end of the run; a light oil film if it sits.

Let drag tell you when
A flat edge parting soft fiber should feel nearly effortless. When it starts to drag, tear, or push the fiber instead of cutting it, hone it — on natural fiber a Standard blade will take that edge back many times before width or temper is gone.

What makes the 080 different from the other flat blades?
It is the thinnest (.065") and narrowest (9/16") standard blade in the line — built for the least drag on the lightest material, where every other flat blade steps up to more width, more gauge, or both.
Which handle fits it?
The 9/16" width seats in the 63055 MAXXGRIP PRO handle (the 9/16"-and-5/8" size). Confirm your handle's width capacity against the blade before ordering.
Can I cut synthetics or cord with it?
You can, but you shouldn't make a program of it — a thin carbon edge rounds fast on abrasive stock. That job wants HSS, and the 080 has no HSS version; move to an HSS-backed pattern (087/088) if abrasive material is the daily work.
Is it stiff enough?
For light fiber at short exposure, yes. Run it long for reach and the thin section will flex — that is the trade the gauge makes, and it is why heavier work belongs to the .072" and .109" blades.
How do I keep the edge?
Hone the flat bevel on a bench stone, take the burr off the back, keep the first inch keenest, and wipe the carbon steel dry after wet work. It will re-take its edge many times before it is used up.
