Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Not a ladder-work specialist: no hook is claimed on this frame — elevated sealing with a hang point is the 46484's and 46420's assignment, and improvising a hook from the lever is how guns get dropped.
  • Not a StopDrip gun: after-release ooze prevention is a claimed technology on two other members; here, clean stops are your thumb's responsibility.
  • Not a 13"/32 oz. gun and not a sausage gun — one format lives on the 46420, the other in a different tool class.
  • Not the bead's remover or smoother (43660, both ends of the recaulk).
  • And not a source of frame-architecture or internal-mechanism claims — plating and parts are claimed; construction beyond them is not .

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL

How the pros run it

01

The lever is the finish move of every bead

Pressure off, then lift — at tempo, without thought, a hundred times a day. Set pressure once, steer with travel. Bead diameter is extrusion over speed; the hand that moves the gun is the precise one, so let it govern. Read the plate. Friction drives report through the trigger: a solid bite is silence, slip is mush — and slip means the material is too cold or too stiff for the moment, which is information, not a challenge . Guard the rod's flats. Cured sealant on the hex is grip surrendered; a rag pass at cleanup preserves the drive. Let the plating do its job. Chrome exists so the gun can live hard — gang box, truck bed, mortar dust — and still run; a wipe after wet or corrosive work (some sealant cleanup solvents are aggressive) keeps the finish ahead of the abuse. Rotate stiff work indoors. The warm-cartridge rule is the closest thing this line has to a force spec, because no force spec exists .

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
46482 or 46484 — the honest answer?
Drive temperament plus one accessory. Prefer instant pressure dumps and friction metering: this gun. Prefer toothed, held advance — or work off ladders, where the 46484's claimed hook is the difference between hanging the gun and juggling it: the twin. The tier, plating, cutter, and punch are identical claims on both.
Does chrome actually matter?
As a claim it is the tier's durability statement: plating survives the gang-box life that chews painted finishes. If your gun lives in a kitchen drawer, it is buying longevity you may never collect — which is what the Homeowner tier is for.
Can it run polyurethane every day?
It is the right family for stiff material — flats grip where cylinders slip — but no Hyde claim rates any gun in this line for thrust , so the standardization call for daily urethane runs through Hyde, not through this page. Warm cartridges regardless.
Does it stop dripping when I release the trigger?
It stops when you press the lever — a reflex, not a claim. Engineered after-release ooze prevention is StopDrip, on the 46310 and 46420.
Where are the cutter and punch on the gun?
Claimed built-in; positions unstated in the record . One tube's worth of use answers it permanently.
Hex rod versus smooth rod — real difference or marketing?
Real, at the margins that pros live at: flats give the friction plate a broader, more repeatable bite and stop rod rotation — the practical meaning of the pro tier running hex (pattern knowledge; Hyde claims the shape, not the physics).
Is there a hydetools.com page for it?
Not in this store's verified record — this model's claim set is catalog-sourced, and this page cites nothing beyond it.
