CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Not a StopDrip gun — this page repeats it deliberately, because the two ladder-hook guns in this line differ on exactly this claim and buyers conflate them: after-release ooze prevention is claimed on the 46420 and 46310, never here.
  • Not a 13"/32 oz. gun — the long-cartridge class is the 46420's alone.
  • Not a sausage-pack tool.
  • Not the instant-pressure-dump gun: that behavior belongs to the thumb-lever friction drives (46400, 46435, 46482); this drive holds until released.
  • Not a remover or smoother of beads — the 43660 owns both ends of the recaulk.

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL

How the pros run it

01

The rod release is the tool's real trigger

Squeezing extrudes; releasing stops — and on a gun with no anti-ooze claim, stopping is a skill you perform, not a feature you bought. Bead ends → rod releases → nozzle lifts. Meter by stroke, steer by pace. The pawl's fixed dose plus your travel speed equals bead size; adjust the pace first, always. Time your pauses over the joint. A paused ratchet keeps feeding for a beat; finished surfaces are never the place to think. Hang it, don't balance it. The hook is claimed equipment — on ladders, staging, and even the top of the gang box, hanging beats leaning every time. Warm the stiff stuff. Cold urethane and winter adhesive are the drive's hard cases and the line publishes no limit to lean on . Wipe the teeth. Cured material packed into rod notches turns a metered advance into a crunchy guess; the chrome shrugs off the same rag pass.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
This or the 46420 for ladder work?
Both carry the claimed hook — the only two in the line that do. Choose by ammunition: standard 10 oz. tubes and detail-scale beads here; 32 oz. pro-channel cartridges and production footage on the 46420. The other honest difference at height: the 46420 claims StopDrip and this gun does not, so rod-release discipline matters more on this one.
Why does it keep oozing after I stop squeezing?
Because a pawl-held rod keeps stored pressure live until the rod is released — the ratchet pattern's oldest trait, and this model carries no claim that suppresses it. Release as each bead closes; park the nozzle over scrap during pauses.
How does the rod release on this model?
The claims name the drive, the trigger, the hook, the cutter, and the punch — but no release lever, so the release's physical execution is a verify-on-the-tool item . The certainty is that ratchet rods release and retract for every cartridge swap.
Contoured trigger — marketing or real?
It is a claim aimed at a real cost: a pro ratchet's day is hundreds of full-force squeezes, and trigger shape is where that force meets your hand. No claim quantifies the ergonomics, and neither will this page.
Can it gun polyurethane and construction adhesive daily?
They are inside its claimed scope, and the held-advance drive is the right temperament for stiff material — but the line publishes no thrust rating , so daily-stiff-material standardization gets confirmed with Hyde, and every cold cartridge gets warmed first regardless of model.
Will chrome plating actually matter to me?
It is the tier's survival claim — the finish for guns that live in gang boxes and truck beds. If your gun lives indoors between projects, the Homeowner ratchet does the same drive's work under a humbler finish.
