Cut off the long point; carry with the body. Expect a fuller line than a flat sash, crisper than a heavy oval — the LS sits between the two, which is its whole reason for being. Steer with the point and keep the same face down so the oval doesn't roll. Tip off broad faces and keep the wet edge moving on long runs.

LS versus XL — what's the difference?
The XL (80768) carries the maximum-capacity Fat Boy designation; the LS is the lighter, more controllable body. Same 2-1/2" angled cut.
Oval or flat sash for cutting in?
Flat cuts crisper; this oval carries more paint for long runs. The LS splits the difference toward control.
2-1/2" or 3" (80764)?
2-1/2" for control; 3" for broader coverage.
Can it lay off a flat face?
It can, but a straight oval (80737/80738) is the dedicated lay-off tool; this angled one is for cutting a line.
