Lay the face in overlapping strokes and let the square tip spread the film flat; there's no point to steer, so drive it straight. Back-brush while wet — lay the paint on, then tip it off in one direction (with the grain on wood) to level it and work it in. Keep the wet edge moving across a broad face so laps melt together. Mind the roll — an oval body rolls if you cock your wrist; keep the flat of the tip to the work. Don't ask it to cut a line — that's an angled brush's job (§4).

Why oval, not a flat 2-1/2"?
Capacity — the oval body holds much more paint for fewer reloads on siding, fences, and doors.

Working sprayed or rolled paint into the surface with a brush; a high-capacity straight oval is the classic tool for it.
