Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • It is, by design, no good at the one thing a pointed blade does best: it cannot start a plunge or pierce cut.
  • Interior cutouts that must begin mid-panel, piercing a taped seam from the top, starting a hole — those need the pointed 42100/42150/42101.
  • It is not a trade blade for leather, belting, or heavy foam (the ground heritage knives own that), and not a precision flash blade.
  • Reaching for a round-tip to do point work and forcing it will only wreck the cut and tempt the exact unsafe technique the blade exists to prevent.

How the pros run it

01

Start your cuts from an edge, not a stab

With no point you cannot plunge into the middle of a panel; enter from a cut edge or a corner and draw. This is a change of habit for anyone used to piercing to start, and it is the intended one. Change at first drag, same as any utility blade — a dull round-tip forces the cut just as a dull point does. Flip to use both cutting corners before discarding; rounding the tip does not cost you the second edge. Keep the spares dry — bare steel rusts — and capture spent blades; a dull round-tip is safer than a dull point but still a live edge. Match it to a round-tip knife where you can — in a Switchblade the round tip and the self-retraction compound into a genuinely low-puncture tool.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why would I want a blade with no point?
Because the point is what punctures — hands and the goods inside a box. Round it off and you keep the slice, lose the stab.
Will it still cut cardboard, wrap, and tape?
Yes — the edge cuts as well as a standard blade; you only give up piercing.
Can I plunge-cut with it?
No — that is the deliberate trade-off. Use pointed blades (42100/42150/42101) for plunge cuts.
Does it fit my knife?
It fits most utility knives, and it is the native blade of Hyde's Switchblade safety knives.
Five or a hundred?
Five to feed a knife; the 42118 hundred-pack to convert a crew.
