Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • It is not a trade blade for leather, reinforced belting, or thick foam — those cuts want the ground, sharpenable heritage knives, not a short stamped edge.
  • It is not a precision flash-trim blade for molded parts (that is a V-trim tool).
  • And its pointed tip makes it the wrong blade wherever a puncture is the hazard you are trying to avoid — cutting shrink wrap over finished goods, opening cartons whose contents must survive, or any program that has banned pointed edges after an incident.
  • Where the point is a liability, step to the round-tip 42117/42118.

How the pros run it

01

Change at first drag

The single discipline that governs utility-blade work: the moment the edge starts to tear rather than slice, it is done. A dull blade forces you to push harder, and a forced cut is where the blade skates off the line and finds a hand. Flip before you toss. Use both trapezoid corners — one dull point does not mean a spent blade, it means turn it around. Expose the minimum. Set your knife to the shallowest depth that severs the material; a short edge is stiffer and safer. Keep them dry. Bare steel blades will bloom rust in a damp box or a wet pouch — store the spares dry and wipe the knife down after wet cuts. Dispose spent blades captured, never loose in a trash bag — a snapped or dull blade still cuts the next hand that reaches in.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Will these fit my knife?
Almost certainly — they are the standard heavy-duty trapezoid blade that fits most utility knives, including all of Hyde's.
What does .025" mean?
The blade's thickness — the heavy-duty gauge, stiffer and tougher than economy blades, so it resists flexing and snapping in hard cuts.
How many cutting edges per blade?
Two — flip the blade end-for-end to use the second point before discarding.
Pointed or round-tip?
Pointed (this blade) starts plunge cuts; round-tip (42117/42118) trades that for puncture safety.
How often should I change?
At the first sign of tearing or drag — sooner than most people do.

Hyde utility knife blades

Top quality blades for my utility knives. I inherited a couple of Hyde Utility Knives from my Dad (carpenter). The Utility Knives are over 30 years old. Great blades, the replacement blades are sharp, fit perfectly and are sturdy.
