CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Not for solvent-borne coatings or their cleanup — lacquer, oil enamels, shellac, two-part finishes, and their thinners attack polystyrene; that entire world belongs to the aluminum members, and at this length specifically to the 28010.
  • Not for line-is-the-product work: flexible edges follow hands as faithfully as walls, and crisp two-tone breaks at this scale want the rigid 28020 — there is no stiff polystyrene at any length, per the line's stated assortment gap.
  • Not for stride: open perimeters and hallway runs triple this blade's placements; the 28050 and the aluminum 36s own the long walls.
  • Not a masking substitute: fog settles on the whole room, so the film and drops stay in every plan this blade appears in.

How the pros run it

01

Bow calibration

short blades take less pressure to seat than long ones — press to full-edge contact and stop; over-bowing lifts the tips and under-fogs the corners. The awning is non-negotiable: face toward the gun, set at the PivotNeck, checked whenever the work changes direction. Lift, never slide: sliding drags the bead down the line it just protected. Gun parallel, never raking toward the tip. Water cleanup only: damp rag mid-job, wash and dry at day's end; solvent touches this blade never. Storage: hung or flat, away from heat, nothing resting on the edge (heat-softening caution is authored polystyrene knowledge, not a Hyde claim) — the working inch is the whole tool.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Is this the shield to learn on?
Yes — the line's queue names the light poly 24 the learner's shield, and 2a teaches the whole craft on it: awning angle, bow to contact, lift, overlap, wipe.
What's the difference from the 28010?
Material only — same 24" x 9", same flex, same neck and handle. The 28010's aluminum shrugs off solvents forever; this blade is lighter, friendlier to buy, and strictly waterborne.
Can I use it with spray cans?
Yes — hand-scale aerosol lines are its natural bench work (2d) , with one caution: many aerosols are solvent-based, so wipe promptly and never soak this blade in solvent.
How do I clean it?
Water, damp rag, done. Solvent is the one thing that damages this blade faster than work does.
Does the handle come in the box? Does a pole fit?
The 18" Acme hardwood handle is the family claim (box contents unstated per-SKU); pole fitment is the family inference (official wording only on the 28100). Verify both before relying on either.
Why did a straight paint line appear on the surface I was protecting?
The edge's wet bead printed — wipe every few placements before it forms, and lift rather than slide (2f).
When do I replace it?
When dried buildup or a rounded edge stops it sealing — retirement is the maintenance plan, and at this SKU's cost the least eventful in the family (2f).
