Quarantine the damaged assembly

Then inspect the receiving assembly:

socket threads visible and not crossed, cracked, or packed with debris;

Read the failure pattern

A handle broken across clear sound wood may have been trapped in a door or loaded sideways. Replacing it restores the part, but the storage or handling cause must also change. A crushed or stripped engagement end points toward cross-threading, excessive tightening, or receiver damage. Compare the replacement to the removed handle when available, but do not create a new specification from that comparison. A visually similar part can still differ in its working connection.

Keep the new handle dry and clean. Do not sand the threaded end, coat it with adhesive, wrap it in tape, or lubricate it with an unapproved material to change fit.

Engage squarely and by hand

Support the shield or clip on a soft stable surface. Align the handle with the receiver axis. Begin engagement by hand under the known product action. It should advance without cross-threading, binding, or visible cocking.

Do not use a wrench, pliers, impact tool, cheater, or heroic grip. Stop if ordinary hand installation does not create a seated, stable connection.

Because no exact service manual is in the evidence set, this guide does not prescribe thread-locker, sealant, washer, fastener, or repair compound. None should be added by assumption.

Inspect the assembled joint

Sight the handle relative to the shield. Check for:

Inspect the joint reference between stages. Stop at the first movement, noise, crack, or uncertainty. No stage uses body weight, impact, twisting beyond normal service, or a test load value invented by the crew.

Return 28000 to service

The 28000 is a 36 × 9-inch flexible aluminum blade. Its span creates leverage, so perform the dry test with clear space.

Set the PivotNeck to a typical controlled working attitude. Hold the replacement handle normally and seat the blade lightly against a representative surface. Observe the handle joint, neck, and both blade ends.

Move through seat, lift, carry, and re-seat without coating. The joint must not rotate or wobble. The blade must not be used as a pry bar. Confirm the aluminum edge remains straight enough for its intended flexible-shield service.

Treat the metal blade conservatively around electricity. The replacement handle does not make the assembly insulating.

Return 28060 to service

The 28060 is a 24 × 9-inch flexible polystyrene shield. Inspect closely for solvent attack, whitening, cracks, notches, and deformation before loading. A new handle cannot restore chemically damaged plastic.

Dry-seat with light pressure. Confirm the shorter blade follows the expected modest irregularity without the receiver twisting. Do not over-bow it merely to stress-test the joint; test only the load encountered in legitimate service.

Verify cleaning materials separately. Hardwood fitment does not expand polystyrene’s chemical compatibility.

Return 28100 to service

The 28100 is a clip system, so test both the handle connection and sheet retention. Use qualified customer-supplied cardboard or other sheet good. The exact 28100 description supports an included 18-inch Acme-threaded hardwood handle; 28070 is used here only as the replacement when that handle is absent or failed.

Seat a safe dry test sheet, orient the PivotNeck, and rehearse the full movement.
