CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Not for residential detail: sash, casings, closets, and stairwells belong to the 24-inch class — this blade cannot seat between obstructions closer than its own span.
  • Not for textured or aged surfaces at any scale: four bridging feet pass more fog than any member of the family on the wrong wall; the 36 flex owns that world.
  • Not for carpet tucks, curves, or scribed profiles — flexible members and the 28100 clip respectively.
  • Not a one-handed tool: if the day's work means holding a shield overhead in one hand while the gun works, the 36 is the ceiling of honest one-hand lengths.
  • And not a masking substitute — at production scale the fog problem is bigger, not smaller; the floors, fixtures, and storefronts still get their film and drops.

How the pros run it

01

Two-handed carriage

handle plus neck or spine between placements; far-tip-first seating; check the seat before every pass. The mark rules: re-find the laser or chalk line at each placement — never eyeball off the previous seat; at 45-inch strides, copied error compounds fastest in the family. No force on hollows: daylight under the span cannot be pressed shut; the surface is disqualifying itself — change blades, not effort. Angle: awning pitch toward the gun, locked at the PivotNeck before the run, re-checked after ladder moves. Gun path: parallel passes; never rake along the blade — at this length a raked pass fires mist off the tip into the next placement's territory. Edge care: store flat or hung, wipe before the bead, respect both tips.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Who actually needs the 48?
Crews whose work includes true straightaways: corridors, open ceilings, fascia elevations, long two-tone bands. If your placements are interrupted every few feet, the 28030 finishes faster — buy stride you can use, not stride in the abstract.
Why is there no flexible or poly version at this length?
The assortment offers 48" in stiff aluminum only. The line's authored reasoning: at four feet a limber blade would droop off the line under its own span — Hyde states no rationale; treat the mechanism as unclaimed.
Can one person use it?
Yes, two-handed between placements (2a) — carriage is the learned skill. All-day one-handed overhead work is the 36's territory.
Why is fog getting under my dead-straight line?
Four feet of rigid edge bridges every hollow it spans. The surface is disqualifying the blade — move to the 36 flex on that wall; no pressure fixes a bridge.
Will lacquer, alkyd, or solvent cleanup hurt it?
No — aluminum is the family's solvent-proof branch, and production coatings are exactly its diet.
Is the handle included? Can it go on a pole?
The 18" Acme hardwood handle is the family claim (box contents unstated per-SKU); pole fitment is the family inference (official wording only on the 28100). Verify both before promising either.
How should it live in the van?
Flat or hung, nothing on the edge, both tips protected. A production fence with a creased corner fogs a corner's worth of every placement (2e).
