Not a pad-safe carpet tool: no open point can guarantee the substrate, and this one reaches deeper than any sibling — captured hooks own that work.
Pierce with the point, lay the blade into the draw, pull toward you and let the inside curve gather the material — same as the wing. The long blade adds momentum and tracking through thick goods, and it adds sweep: mind the longer arc the edge travels, keep the off-hand and kneeling leg out of the exit line. Leverage is edge leverage, not tip leverage. The extra inch multiplies cutting bite, and it also multiplies the lever arm on the fine long point — twisting a buried 3-1/2" blade side-loads the spur harder than the same twist on a 2-1/2". Prying, snap-line work, and tear-out belong to the short-point 20250 and the Black & Silver 20550; the big knife's size is not armor. Depth: the open point cuts what's underneath — sacrificial surfaces under rough cuts, captured hooks (42200/67090, other lines) wherever the substrate must survive; a deep blade only makes that discipline matter more.

Keeping the edge
High-carbon cutlery steel gives this knife a long, maintainable edge. Hone the inside curve with a slip stone or dowel-backed abrasive, following the full sweep, then strop the burr off the outside. Do not use a flat bench stone by itself; it will flatten the curve’s belly. Keep the point sharp, because it starts every cut in both of this knife’s trades. Drywall use calls for more frequent honing, and wet floor work calls for wiping the blade dry after use — neglected carbon steel will rust. If you do not want to stone an edge, choose replaceable utility blades instead.

What do I get over the 20350?
An inch — and only an inch. Size is the only documented difference between the twins: reach, longer bites, more edge in contact, stiffer cut. We will not invent a second difference the record doesn't contain.
Is 3-1/2" the blade length?
It's the figure in Hyde's product name; no dimension table exists for the family, and we read it as blade length per trade convention, flagged .
What steel is it?
High-carbon cutlery steel, hardened, tempered, and honed — cited to the catalog p.40 block that lists the 20610 under that heading; the store packet itself carries no steel claim, so the provenance is documented .
Which drywall cuts is it for?

Is bigger tougher?
No — the extra inch is leverage on the same fine long point, not armor. Abuse work belongs to the 20250 and 20550.
Rust and sharpening?
