Hyde gave the knuckle-protection job to the long points by name, and a full-perimeter trim with your fist an inch off the floor is the 20200's work (the 20610's over thick goods) — not this knife's.
It carries no drywall designation (that's the 20350 and 20610), no vinyl duty line (20450), and no roofing name (20550).
It is not a pad-safe carpet knife: over pad or a finished subfloor, the captured hook — 42200 blades or the 67090 hook knife, other lines — cannot touch what's underneath, and this open point can.
And it is not the flooring scraper that follows its own strip cuts.
The short point still pierces, which sets this knife apart from captured-hook styles, but it enters steeper and with more force than a long spur, so keep your off-hand clear of the cut line before you punch. The pull is the same: draw toward you and let the curve feed the material into the belly of the edge. The short point handles a more upright blade angle under force, so it feels planted where a long point feels delicate. Use discipline at the tip: it can handle snap-line leverage and strip-cut twisting, but use a pry bar for lifting flooring. Edge care: carbon cutlery steel needs regular maintenance. Use a slip stone or dowel-backed abrasive along the inside curve, following the sweep, then strop the burr off the outside. Avoid using only a flat bench stone, which flattens the curve’s belly. Tear-out dulls the edge faster than fitting work, so this knife needs the stone more often than its siblings. Wipe it dry after wet demolition, because adhesive slurry rusts neglected carbon steel. If you do not want to sharpen, use 42200 hook blades in a utility knife instead: consumable hooks are the practical alternative for both cutting directions.

What does "short point" actually get me?
Hyde's word is durability. Mechanically: the tip sits close to the blade's mass, so the side-loads of scoring, snapping, and strip-cutting don't snap it the way they snap a long fine spur.
What do I give up?
Knuckle clearance on long pulls — the long points' documented job. This is the wrong knife for trimming a whole room's perimeter.
Is it the right knife for ripping out old vinyl?
It's the hardwood wing's knife for exactly that — with the asbestos test-first boundary stated plainly above. If tear-out is your trade rather than your Tuesday, the 20550 is the documented step up.
Can I pry with it?
You can get away with more than any sibling. It's still a knife tip, not a bar — lifting flooring belongs to scrapers.
Score-and-snap tile: this or a utility knife?
Either scores VCT; this knife adds the curved edge that shaves a wandered break true and a tip built for the snap line's prying. The consumable-blade case is real for the sharpen-averse, and it's the utility line's argument to make.
Does it rust?
Carbon cutlery steel can rust if neglected. Wipe it dry after demo work; stone it when tear-out dulls it. That upkeep is the price of a re-takeable edge.
