Grip so the guard seats against your fingers and pull in line with the handle — the 5° angle lifts your knuckles; choking up over the blade works against the knife’s shape. Use one firm, continuous pull in binding material; repeated tugs let the material re-grip the blade cheeks. Depth: the point pierces to start cuts anywhere, and it cuts whatever is beneath — use sacrificial backing under rough cuts, and a captured hook when the substrate must stay intact. Off-hand discipline: strip cuts and shingle trims can release suddenly; the guard protects your knife hand, so keep your holding hand out of the pull line. Edge care: high-carbon steel needs proper touch-up, like the hardwood wing — use a slip stone or dowel-backed abrasive along the inside curve, then strop the burr off the outside; flat stones by themselves are not enough. The hollow grind is factory-set: hone the edge and leave the cheeks alone so the binding relief stays intact. Roofing granule and demolition work dull this edge faster than fitting work; wipe it dry after wet tear-out, because carbon steel rusts when left wet.

Everything Hyde printed: .072" stated blade thickness, hollow grind against binding, 5° offset handle, soft grip with finger guard, forever guarantee. The hardwood wing has none of those claims.
Is the blade high-carbon or chrome vanadium?
The catalog — the authority — says high-carbon; one retailer listing says chrome vanadium. The conflict is documented and this page follows the catalog.
How long is the blade?
Not printed in the catalog or the official record . The store title carries 2-1/2", but we won't state a dimension no official source gives.
Is it full tang?
Not stated. Other Black & Silver families document full-tang construction; this knife's record doesn't, so we don't carry the claim over .
Can it be my only roofing knife?
