Mixing and pail work. No pointed blade scrapes a bucket corner; the margin trowels (18050/18060) own that entire duty.
Striking. This blade fills joints; compression and concave profile are the jointer's trade (18170/18182), and repointing needs both in sequence.
Compound and putty. The §1 fork governs — flexible pointing knives for drywall compound, putty knives for sash work. A rigid forged trowel serves neither.
Tight-field pointing the blade can't turn in. Under sills and beside sash, admit the 5-1/2"'s jurisdiction — that is why the pair exists.
Seven inches can lift more than most joints accept; the discipline is a ribbon matched to the run you're feeding, picked up along the edge, not heaped at the center. Press back-to-front: compaction happens under the tip and edge driven straight in; smearing sideways bridges voids and stains faces. Hawk tight under the work — everything that falls goes back in the next press. Use the high-lift clearance: on long bed-joint runs, blade low and knuckles riding above the wall line is the geometry the handle was raised for. The tip is an instrument, not a lever: no prying units, no chiseling old mortar — that work has its own tools and this blade's precision is the thing you'd spend. Rinse and dry by the mortar's clock: hardened, tempered carbon steel per the live page — mortar stones onto it by chemistry, and wet alkaline residue is how good blades pit overnight.

Pointing trowel vs pointing knife?
Mortar versus joint compound. This is the mortar tool — rigid, forged, Philadelphia-form. The flexible triangle (02700/02701) belongs to drywall. One glance in the bucket settles it.
7" or 5-1/2"?
More mortar per trip and small-course moonlighting here; tightest-quarters control there. Production repoints favor this blade; sash-and-sill fields favor its sibling; crews carry both.
Can it lay brick?
A pier or a planter course, yes — that moonlight is real and stated by the line doc. A wall, no: the 10" London is three inches of capacity and a laying-grade blade away, and the boundary is honest.
Is it forged one-piece?
Per the MAXXGRIP family text and the live Hyde page, yes — hardened, tempered, ground high-carbon steel — with one extraction discrepancy flagged to the resolution queue instead of hidden .
What else does a repoint need?
Removal tools (other lines, silica boundary attached), a tuck pointer that fits the joint (18070/18080, cross-line), a margin trowel for the mixing, a jointer for the strike, and mortar matched softer than the masonry. §2a in one sentence.
