CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Carbide Blade: Durable, ideal for tough scraping tasks.
  • Two-Handed Knob: Provides added control and comfort during use.
  • Replaceable Blade: Ensures longevity and continued performance.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Detail and narrow work — 2-1/2" bridges muntins and channels, which want the 7/8" triangular 10600.
  • It is not a filing tool (no file touches carbide), not a pry or a struck tool beyond the Hammer Head®'s fastener-setting duty (brittleness is the tax), and not the economical choice for casual or light work — the self-rescuing steel heads (10540/10520) are cheaper to own where the coatings aren't punishing.
  • And it is not a dust-capture tool on its own — the shrouded 09190 (a 2" carbide head) is the tool built to feed a HEPA vac.

How the pros run it

01

Pull toward you at a steep angle, downforce over the edge, second hand on the knob

the family stroke amplified. Let carbide's hardness do the work: answer slowed cutting with a flip or a substrate check, never with more pressure, because carbide under excess downforce finds something to chip on rather than biting deeper. Keep the head flat and the pull straight to avoid corner-loading. And the boundary rides with every card: widespread and iron-hard failure is pre-1978 territory, so assume lead, work wet and contained, and treat paid disturbance as RRP-governed, certified-firm work per the scrapers line doc — with the 09190 vacuum scraper the family's dust-capture answer where that governs (EPA — Lead RRP Program).

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
What replacement blade fits it?
A 2-1/2" 2-edge carbide blade — the head's own claim says the blade is replaceable — but no replacement-blade SKU in the record is claimed to fit the 2-1/2" carbide edge. The 11171/11172/11170 are 2" blades for the 10610 and 09190, not this head; the width does not match, and this store won't assert a fit no claim supports (section 2d) . Resolve on the package.
Does the 11171 carbide 25-pack fit it?
Not asserted. The 11171 is a 2" blade named to the 10610/09190; the 10620 is 2-1/2". The exterior-siding guide lists 11171 against the 10620 and flags the width disagreement itself; this page carries the flag and asserts no fit .
Can I sharpen it?
No — carbide is harder than a mill file, and the 11200 file is scoped to carbon steel. Flip to the second edge, then replace. (A diamond hone physically works; Hyde publishes no procedure .)
How is it different from the 10610?
Width (2-1/2" vs 2"), a two-handed pull knob, and a Hammer Head® inset — a heavy two-handed head versus a one-hand field head.
Carbide or the steel 10540?
Carbide for hard old coatings and whole-house production, where holding an edge across the job beats filing; the steel 10540 (with a rough/smooth 4-edge blade) for everything cheaper, filable, and self-rescuing.
Lead paint?
Widespread hard failure is pre-1978 territory. Work under the RRP boundary (section 3); consider the 09190 shroud where dust control governs.
