How the pros run it

Pull toward you at a steep angle, downforce over the edge, second hand on the knob

A wider stroke with carbide bite. Let carbide’s hardness do the work: if cutting slows, flip the blade or check the surface, and keep pressure light so the edge stays intact. Keep the head flat and pull straight to avoid corner-loading. For widespread, iron-hard coating failure on pre-1978 surfaces, assume lead, work wet and contained, and follow EPA Lead RRP requirements for paid work. Use the 09190 vacuum scraper when dust capture is required (EPA — Lead RRP Program).

What replacement blade fits it?

HYDE’s manufacturer catalog identifies model 11180, a 2-1/2-inch two-edge carbide blade, as the replacement for scraper 10620. Model 11180 is not currently sold online here; contact HYDE Store to confirm supply. Model 11100 is for 10520 and is not the verified replacement for 10620.

Does the 11171 carbide 25-pack fit it?

No verified fit for 10620: model 11171 is a 2-inch blade documented for 10610. HYDE’s catalog identifies 11180 for the 2-1/2-inch 10620 scraper.

Can I sharpen it?

No — carbide is harder than a mill file, and the 11200 file is scoped to carbon steel. Flip to the second edge, then replace. (A diamond hone physically works; Hyde publishes no procedure .)

How is it different from the 10610?

Width (2-1/2" vs 2"), a two-handed pull knob, and a Hammer Head® inset — a heavy two-handed head versus a one-hand field head.

Carbide or the steel 10540?

Carbide for hard old coatings and whole-house production, where holding an edge across the job beats filing; the steel 10540 (with a rough/smooth 4-edge blade) for everything cheaper, filable, and self-rescuing.

Lead paint?

Widespread hard failure is pre-1978 territory. Work under the RRP boundary (section 3); consider the 09190 shroud where dust control governs.
