At 2-1/2" and 12-1/2" of two-handed tool, it bridges muntins, quirks, and narrow trim — those want the 1" 10500 or the 1-1/2" 10530.
It is not a broad-flat coverage tool: uniformly failed corner boards, fascia, and flush panels clear faster under the 5" 10550.
It is not an apply tool (no fill role — the flexible putty knives own that), not a profile tool (contour scrapers own moldings), and not a pry or struck tool beyond the Hammer Head®'s nail-setting duty — driving the blade with a mallet mushrooms handles and snaps tangs.
And it is not the carbide economy: on iron-hard old coatings and full-crew production, the 2-1/2" carbide 10620 holds its edge across jobs where this steel wants a file across passes.
Pull toward you at a steep angle with downforce directly over the edge
Use the second hand on the knob for extra control and force. Match edge to pressure: rough grind under full two-handed downforce for buildup the wall is shedding; smooth grind under moderated pressure for the surface you keep. Keep the head flat so pressure spreads across the full width, keep the pull straight to avoid corner-loading, and never answer a tired edge with more force — rotate, then file. Read edges in raking light. Heavy multi-coat failure is where pre-1978 lead paint may be present, so work wet and contained and treat paid disturbance as EPA RRP lead-safe work; the scrapers line’s full section applies (EPA — Lead RRP Program).

What blade fits it?
The 2-1/2" four-edge blade — 11130 (single) or 11135 (2-pack) — claimed "Replacement for HYDE scraper #10540." It is not the 2-edge 11100 (that's the 10520's), and same-width is not same-fit . See the blade-width flag in section 5.
Why four edges?
Two rough for hogging heavy alligatored build, two smooth for finishing — four working edges before any file, and the rough pair is what real production work consumes.
What is the knob for?
Two-handed downforce: a second hand directly over the edge roughly doubles controllable pressure without doubling fatigue — the reason this head sustains all-day use.
What is the Hammer Head® for?
Resetting popped nails and dimpling holes as you scrape, without carrying a hammer up the ladder.
Single blade or the 2-pack?
A repair wall → the single 11130; a whole-house prep or a crew day with a real hogging phase → the 11135 2-pack, because filing can't restore a rough edge and rough capacity is the scarce resource.
Lead paint?
This head's whole use case — heavy multi-coat failure — is where lead lives. Work under the RRP boundary (section 3).
