  • Broad fields, where 1-1/2" crawls — step up to the 2-1/2" 10520 or the two-handed, four-edge 10540.
  • It has no pull knob and no Hammer Head® inset, so it is neither a two-handed production tool nor a nail-setter.
  • It is not an apply tool, not a profile tool (coves and moldings want the contour scrapers), and not the carbide economy for iron-hard coatings at production pace (the 10610 class).

The stroke is the family's

draw the scraper toward you at a steep angle, downforce over the edge — with one addition at four-edge grain: match the edge to the pressure. Rough edges reward firm downforce in heavy build; smooth edges want moderated pressure, because they are finishing tools and driving them like hogging edges chatters the surface they exist to refine. Never answer a tired edge with more force — rotate, then file — since force on a dull edge arrives as gouges. Read edges in raking light. And the governing boundary: heavy multi-coat failure is exactly where lead lives, so assume pre-1978 coats are lead, work wet and contained, and treat paid disturbance as RRP-governed, certified-firm work per the scrapers line doc's full section (EPA — Lead RRP Program).

What makes it "4-edge"?
The blade has two rough edges for hogging heavy, alligatored build and two smooth edges for finishing — four working edges before any filing decision, versus the 10510's two edges ground alike.
What blade fits it?
The 1-1/2" four-edge blade, restocked as the 11120 (single) or 11125 (2-pack) in the scrapers line; the head's own claim is a "replaceable 1-1/2" blade with 2 rough and 2 smooth scraping edges." Note the open blade-width flag in section 5 .
Which edges do I use first?
On heavy build: rough, rough, then smooth, smooth. On light failure: smooth only, and save the rough pair.
Can I sharpen it?
The smooth edges, yes, at the bevel with a mill file. Filing a rough edge leaves a filed (effectively smooth) edge, not the factory rough grind — treat the rough pair as consumables.
Why choose this over the plain 10510?
Only for heavy, multi-coat failure. For light and occasional work the two-edge 10510 is the cheaper, simpler tool.
Lead paint?
This blade's natural habitat — old multi-coat build — is where lead lives. Work under the RRP boundary (section 3).
