- Field-scale power sanding of a big flat wall — that is the 9" net disc (09919) on the radial sander, which covers area faster and pivots any direction without corner-digging; the sheet is for hand and pole work and the geometry a 9" head overwhelms.
- Contoured or curved surfaces — bullnose, casing profiles, furniture — where the flat rectangle chords and digs; that is the 5" foam sponge disc (45383/45384).
- Final finish before a sheen paint: 120 leaves a scratch that flashes under eggshell and satin, so it is never the last grit — 180 (09939) is.
- And it is not a paint-film grit: sanding between primer and finish coats is 240's job (09940), because 120 is far too coarse and would cut through the film.

How the pros run it

Tension first
the sheet must be drum-tight in the clamps — every fault in hand-sheet sanding starts with a loose sheet. Pressure: the weight of the sander, no more; on a pole, less. 120 wants to cut, and added force only buys you a gouged face paper or a dished joint. Reading the surface: raking light across the work, not overhead light — a scratch or a hollow throws a shadow you cannot see any other way. The skip rule: you may start coarser than 120 only if there are real defects to remove (that is a 100-grit 5" job, 45382); you may go finer next (150), but never jump 120 straight to 240 — the fine grit will polish the tops of the 120 scratches without reaching their bottoms, and primer will find every one. Care of the abrasive: wash before it fully loads, not after it stops cutting.

What grit do I start with on a taped joint?
120 (this sheet) if the joint has ridges or tool marks; 150 (09938) if the taping is already clean. Never finish at 120 — follow with 150, then 180 if the paint is a sheen.
Will it clog on painted walls?
That is the case the net is built for — the open weave "all but eliminat[es] clogging even when used on painted wall preparation jobs." A conventional paper loads on paint almost at once.
Can I really reuse them?
Yes — rinse the dust out of the mesh, dry, and re-clamp. Hyde rates the net at 3× the life of sandpaper, which is what makes ten sheets a working rotation.
What sander does it fit?
Hyde dust-free hand and pole sanders (09160/09165/09170/09180) via EasyClamp, and conventional clamp hand sanders. The net sheet is 3-5/16" × 11-1/4" while Hyde's conventional clamp sanders spec a 3-1/4" × 9-3/8" sheet; the clamps grip beyond the pad so both can be true, but verify the exact conventional fit against the physical tool.
Is it dust-free by itself?
No — the sheet enables dust extraction, but the dust-free result comes from mounting it on a vacuum-connected Hyde sander. Off a vacuum it still resists clogging but the dust goes where dust goes.
