CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Precision Scraping: Stiff blade allows for precise removal of paint and putty in tight or delicate areas.
  • Non-Sparking: Ideal for use in applications where sparking could be an issue.
  • Comfort Grip: Overmolded handle provides a secure and comfortable grip during use.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • General-purpose scraping, filling, and striking.
  • Outside its two reasons to exist — spark hazard and delicate substrate — the 06321 is a worse, costlier scraper than steel, and the stiff Pro Stainless 06308 or a Black & Silver stiff does everyday removal better.
  • It's stiff, so it can't fill (no conforming to a wall; fill with a flexible knife).
  • It has no Hammer Head, so it's not a fastener-reset tool.
  • And brass will not tolerate being used as a pry bar or a struck chisel — it bends and deforms where steel would hold.

How the pros run it

01

Ordinary stiff-blade mechanics

low angle (15–30°), shear rather than chisel, push for power and pull for control. Respect the softer metal: brass dulls, rounds, and can deform faster than steel — keep the edge dressed, expect more frequent maintenance, and don't treat it as a pry bar. Let softness protect the substrate: on delicate surfaces the point is that the blade yields first, so ease the pressure and let the edge burnish rather than force it. Non-sparking is a system, not just a blade: in a classified area the whole job — tools, containers, procedures — is controlled; the brass knife is one compliant part of that, used within the site's rules. Overmold care: comfort grip, not a solvent-soak handle — even in a solvent room, don't leave it sitting in the thinner.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why brass instead of steel?
Two reasons: brass won't spark in volatile environments, and it's soft enough to scrape delicate surfaces without gouging them. If you have neither problem, buy steel. (§1, §2)
Is it non-magnetic and non-sparking?
Non-sparking, per Hyde, for volatile/spark-controlled environments; brass is also non-magnetic by nature. Use it within your site's rules for classified areas. (§2a)
Does it have a Hammer Head?
No — and it shouldn't; a soft brass striking face would be pointless and defeats the non-sparking purpose. (§1)
How is it different from the 02320 brass knife?
Same brass mission; the 02320 is the nylon full-tang facility build, the 06321 adds the comfort grip for a personal kit. (§5)
Will the edge last like steel?
No — brass is softer and dulls faster; that's the accepted cost of working spark-free or protecting a soft surface. (§2a, §3)
Can I use it as a general scraper?
You can, but you shouldn't — it's a costlier, duller-edged tool than steel outside its specialty jobs. (§4)
