  • And do not lean on a Hammer Head this SKU may not carry: if the reset-popped-nail trick is part of the plan, buy the sibling whose strike butt is a stated catalog claim (§5).

Two passes, always

steep to pack the compound into the void, flat to wipe the excess off and let the flex feather the edges — the fill happens in the second pass, not the first. Work thin: light coats shrink and crack less and sand faster than one heavy fill. Lean on the low-maintenance steel: the practical advantage of stainless is behavioral, not magical — you stop babysitting the blade, so dip-wipe-repeat and rinse-and-move-on become the rhythm, which is faster on a wet-compound day than a carbon blade allows. Edge upkeep: stainless holds an adequate fill edge a long time and needs no drying ritual; the cost is that it hones back to a keen scraping edge less readily than carbon — but this is a fill knife, not a scraper, so that rarely bites. Keep the overmold out of solvent: the cushioned grip is a comfort feature, not a chemical-resistant one — don't soak it in lacquer thinner.

Does it have a Hammer Head?
The Pro Stainless family page describes one, but the 06108's own catalog spec line doesn't confirm it — treat it as unverified for this SKU. If you need the strike butt, the 2" 06228 states it. (§1, §5, §8)
Why stainless over the carbon 06101?
No rust bloom, no gray streaking of white compound, no wipe-dry ritual — at the cost of a slightly less keen honed edge. (§5)
What's the difference from the 2" (06228)?
Width, plus the confirmed Hammer Head on the 2". (§5)
Will it rust?
No — it's stainless. That's the whole point of this SKU over the carbon version.
Lead paint?
Any incidental scraping in a pre-1978 building is under the standard lead-safe boundary — assume lead, contain and wet, follow RRP practice.
