The two ends, two motions

the chisel is a scraping-and-sliding tool (along the rabbet to remove, flat along the glass to drive points); the V-blade is a pulling tool (one continuous stroke per run). Angle and pressure: let heat and kneaded putty do the work — force is what cracks panes and tears bevels. The standing rule of all glazing: nothing ever levers against the glass; every prying edge works against sash wood, rides parallel to the pane, or slides flat along it. Not a struck tool: the 02950 is high-carbon steel with a powder-coat, not a leather-handled hacking knife — do not hammer its spine along a rabbet; heat plus the chisel, or the hacking knife, handle stuck putty. Care: high-carbon steel under a powder coat resists corrosion better than a bare carbon blade, but keep the working edges clean and dry after use; linseed oil and putty wipe off before they cure.

What are the two ends?
A 1-1/4" chisel end (removes old putty, drives push-style glazing points, pulls old points, cleans the rabbet) and a slotted V-blade end (strikes and applies a smooth 45° putty bevel in one pull).
Why not just use my 5-in-1's "putty remover"?
A 2-1/2" multi-tool blade bridges a 1-1/4" glazing rabbet and can't reach the channel floor, and it has no V-blade to strike a bevel. The multi-tool clears loose crumbles; the 02950 actually reglazes the window.
Does putty hold the glass in?
No — the points do; putty beds and seals. The chisel end drives push-style points (45760) home flat along the glass. This is the fact most people get backwards.
Can I hammer it to remove stuck putty?
No — it's not a struck tool. Use gentle heat plus the chisel for what will release, and a hacking knife for fossilized putty. Never lever any glazing tool against the glass.
Will it make my putty line look professional?
That's exactly what the V-blade is for — one continuous pull leaves a clean 45° bevel that looks like a glazier struck it. It's the tool's headline feature.
What else do I need to reglaze a window?
Glazing points (45760), a way to cut the pane (45700) or a hardware-store cut, glazing compound from the paint store, a flexible putty knife for bedding, and the sash painter (45042) for the paint step. The full sequence is the reglaze-a-single-pane-window guide.
