The guidance below describes applications and limitations. For a match to your particular job or an existing tool, ask us to confirm fit.
Walls, as a default — the 1/4" starves and reloads endlessly on a full wall; that is the 3/8" 47302's job.
Any real texture — orange peel, knockdown, sand plaster: the short nap paints the peaks and skips the valleys, leaving a wall that looks done at noon and unpainted at 6 PM; step to 1/2" (47300) or longer.
Masonry, brick, stucco, cinder block — Hyde is explicit that rough surfaces "will snag, fray, and quickly tear up the delicate microfiber filaments"; masonry is polyester's job (Lamb Pro 47365/47366), never microfiber's, at any nap.
Exterior finish woodwork — for a front door or exterior enamel trim in the sun, the exterior-grade polyester 1/4" (Lamb Pro 47360) is built for it; this interior microfiber is the wrong fiber outdoors (see §5).
Light hand — this is the E-volution rule and it is strictest at short nap
The microfiber holds up to 3× a standard cover's paint; press hard and it floods the surface and drips. Let the nap release the paint at the weight of your hand. De-lint before the first load even on a lint-free cover — wrap it in painter's tape and pull, or wash and spin — so nothing rides into a gloss film. Load and unload: saturate the cover, then roll most of it back out on the tray screen or grid; a finish coat is laid from a lightly-loaded cover in thin films, not dumped. Lay off in one direction with a near-weightless final pass so the residual stipple aligns and the sheen reads even. Thin coats, more of them — two thin coats out-finish one thick one on any gloss surface, and the recoat window on the can sets the pace. Cleaning takes longer, honestly: the dense fiber web holds paint tightly and wants a thorough rinse until the water runs clear, then spin and stand it on end to dry — a quality microfiber rewards the wash by getting better with use. What's the 1/4" nap for?
Smooth close-read surfaces — doors, cabinets, trim, and genuinely smooth critical-lighting walls — to a near-spray finish. Not general walls — §2, §4.
Why not just use it on my walls?
It carries little paint and you'll reload constantly; the 3/8" (47302) is the wall nap — §2d, §5.
Best paint for it?
Semi-gloss and high-gloss enamels, and any sheen on a smooth surface — Hyde rates the microfiber flat through high-gloss — §2c.
Will it shed into my gloss finish?
It's 100% lint-free microfiber built to resist shedding — still de-lint it once before the first load — §3.
Can I use it on textured walls or masonry?
No — short nap skips texture valleys, and masonry shreds microfiber; use a longer nap or, for masonry, polyester — §4.
