Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Solvent gloss you'll discard the cover after — that's foam's rational job; a microfiber is too good to bin and rinses solvent out slowly.
  • It's also wrong for rough or masonry surfaces, where the fine filaments snag and tear on brick, stucco, and block, and for heavy texture at this short nap (3/8" bridges deep valleys).
  • And it's overkill and over-cost for primer and utility coats — those are the General Purpose mini's jobs; you don't spend a keeper microfiber on a coat that gets painted over.

How the pros run it

01

The defining rule of microfiber is a light hand

The fabric's high capacity means it floods the surface if you press — the film sags and runs. Load it fully off a screen, then lay it on with almost no pressure and let the nap release the paint. It rinses slowly: paint works deep into the dense fibers, so clean it thoroughly, running water through to the base until it runs clear, or the next job starts with a stiff core. For touch-ups, the whole craft is matching and feathering — same batch, same nap, a light final pass that fades the patch edges into the surrounding sheen rather than stopping hard. De-lint gently before first use.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why is this the touch-up cover?
Because invisible touch-ups require matching the wall's nap and fabric class. A 4″ microfiber at 3/8″ reproduces a microfiber-rolled wall's fine stipple, so a feathered patch disappears — where a different cover would flash.
How is it different from the cheap 4″ (94044)?
Same width and nap, different grade: microfiber-class finish that lays flatter and holds more paint, versus a budget knit cover for priming and utility coats.
How do I care for it?
Light hand while rolling; rinse thoroughly to the base of the fibers so it doesn't dry stiff. It's a keeper, not a throwaway.
Can I use it for gloss doors I'll toss the cover after?
Use foam for that — a microfiber is worth keeping and rinses solvent slowly. Reserve the 94046 for waterborne finish and touch-ups.
Will it work on textured or masonry walls?
No — the fine fibers snag and tear on rough surfaces, and 3/8″ bridges heavy texture. Use a woven or general-purpose cover at a longer nap.
