Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Anything bigger than 3" covers — a 4" mini over-hangs its ramp (that's the 92051's job) and a 9" wall cover is absurd on it (the 47452's job).
  • Repeated, long-term use as a kit staple — the light econo molding isn't built for it; the 4" standard 92051 is the keep-in-the-kit mini.
  • Holding paint between coats — no cover, so it skins over; the covered 47451 is the between-coats mini.
  • Solvent-borne coatings — thin econo plastic and hot solvents don't mix; the metal 92060 is the solvent tray.
  • And it is not a tray to line — at this price the tray is the consumable, not a chassis for a liner.

How the pros run it

01

Pour tiny, top up often

the smallest well in the line spills on a heavy pour; feed it in sips. Match the 3" cover to the 3" ramp — don't run a 4" cover in it (it over-hangs) or borrow a bigger tray for a 3" cover (it wastes paint). No lid, no liner, no long hold — this is an open, use-it-now tray; a two-day job wants a different member. Retire it when washing costs more than it's worth — the econo tray is allowed to be a consumable; that's what "econo" means. Reach for it at the punch-list stage — trim and touch-up at the tail of a job is its sweet spot.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
What roller does it take?
A 3" mini cover — trim, baseboards, cabinet stiles, radiator work (2a). A 4" cover over-hangs it; use the 92051 for that.
Why is it cheaper — is it worse?
It's "econo": a light-gauge, project-grade molding at consumable price. For a one-time trim job that's the right buy; for a tray you'll reuse for years, the sturdier 92051 is worth the difference.
Does it have a cover or take a liner?
Neither. At this price the tray itself is the disposable — there's nothing to line, and no lid to hold paint between coats.
Can I keep paint in it overnight?
No — open pan, it skins over. Use the covered 47451 for two-day mini work.
How much paint does it hold? What are its dimensions?
Not published — A. Richard states no capacity or measurements for the 92053. Treat it as the smallest, lightest tray in the line, not a number.
Should I just wash it and reuse it?
You can (it's a fast wash at 3"), but you don't have to — if washing costs more time than the tray is worth, retiring it is the intended move.
