Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Cutting a line — no corner, no crisp edge; use an angled brush (oval-angled 80734, or a flat sash 80803/80752).
  • Control-scale and narrow work — three inches of loaded oval is a lot of brush; for smaller faces and better control the 2-1/2" 80737 is the more manageable straight oval, and small trim needs a sash.
  • Oil finishes if the fiber isn't natural — verify before varnish or enamel.
  • Detail lay-off in tight spots — the width that makes it fast on open fields makes it clumsy anywhere confined.

How the pros run it

01

Two forces to manage at 3": load and drag

Charge the reservoir deep and tap — a shy load wastes the brush's only advantage — but keep the belly loaded, not the ferrule, so it doesn't sheet paint down the handle. Drive it straight in long overlapping strokes; there is no point to steer, so speed and a level film are the goals. Back-brush and tip off in one direction (with the grain on wood) to level and work the coating in. Outrun nothing — a 3" covers ground so fast you can pass the open time of fast latex; keep the wet edge live and don't stop mid-wall. Keep the flat of the tip to the work so the oval body doesn't roll and load one edge.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why the 3" over the 2-1/2"?
Coverage — the widest swath and the deepest reservoir, for the fewest reloads on big flat fields.
Straight or angled (80734)?
Straight lays a broad face; angled cuts a line. Same 3" oval body otherwise.
Is it hard to control?
At full load, yes — it's a big-field brush, not a control brush. Size down to 80737 for all-day comfort.
Best use?
Back-brushing and laying heavy coatings over large exterior wood faces.
What bristle?
Not published in the packet — match to your coating and confirm on the listing (§8).

Smooth Finish

I'm a professional painter and always trying brushes to improve my results. Have always been a fan of oval shaped brushes for their ability to hold a lot of paint to go from bucket to surface. With this brush I'm able to do a 6 foot cut in on a single brush load. The end result is a full and very smooth finish. Excellent brush!!!!!
