✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- All-day close trimming — an inch-and-five-eighths of depth bridges the concave work that a 1"-deep blade gets inside, and after an hour of gland-and-silverskin detail your wrist knows it's holding the wrong knife; that's the 508's job description.
- Material deeper than one 10" stroke — slabbing and splitting through deep mass belongs to the 14" class, where the draw stays continuous (68180 with a point, 68300 where the point itself is the hazard).
- Any station documented by a written cut-safety program that requires hand or drop protection — no open-pattern knife answers policy; the guarded 68180 and safety-engineered 68300 exist for exactly that signature.
- Sticking, skinning, and boning — other patterns, other geometry, honestly declined.
- And chopping: a butcher pattern slices; driven vertical force is the H404 mill knife's brief on the sibling page, not this blade's.
