The guard sets the hand

Seat the web of the hand against the finger guard for a positive, repeatable grip — its real payoff is on repetitive production cuts, where it removes the constant tension of holding station on a bare handle and keeps a tiring hand off the edge. Off hand behind the line. The guard protects the cutting hand only; the hand steadying the work stays clear of the blade's path. Low angle, progressive strokes — lay the blade low so the .065" edge shears cleanly, and deepen tough cuts over passes rather than forcing one. Maintain the edge: hardened high-carbon steel honed square and keen on a stone; the lively .065" gauge rewards a fine edge, and a dry wipe after wet or adhesive-adjacent work keeps rust off. This is a knife you sharpen, not one you feed.

How is this different from the 60630?
Only the finger guard. Same 6" × 1" × .065" blade, same cut. The 60660 adds a guarded handle.
Is it a belt-splicing knife?
For lighter belt and strap, yes — with a guarded hand for the forceful, repetitive work. Wide reinforced belt outgrows the .065" gauge and wants the eight-inch .083" 60810.
What size is it in the range?
The mid-weight: six inches of reach at the standard .065" production gauge — between the 4"–5" bench knives and the heavy eight-inch slabbing knives.
60660 or 60600?
One inch of reach. The 60600 is handier in confined cuts; the 60660 gives a longer draw. Both guarded, both .065".
Will it rust?
High-carbon cutlery steel: hone it, wipe it dry after wet or adhesive work. Maintain it, don't feed it.
Handle material — wood or soft-grip?
The store lists a wood safety handle; some catalog wording describes a soft-grip guard — reconcile before spec-grade copy. The guard's function is the same either way.
