Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Stiff Carbon Steel Bristles: 1-1/4" bristles deliver powerful scrubbing for tough cleaning tasks.
  • Built-in Scraper: Carbon steel scraper on the nose for effective removal of rust, paint, and grime.
  • Offset Handle: Protects knuckles during use, reducing hand strain and improving comfort.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Stainless steel and aluminum. The binding exclusion — both the wire and the scraper are carbon steel and will iron-contaminate those metals. Use the stainless 46800.
  • Tight, confined, or slotted work. The 1-3/4" block is too wide to reach into channels, louvers, and corners — that's the narrow 46802 or the thin-profile 46806.
  • Delicate, soft, or finished surfaces. Stiff carbon wire and a steel scraper scar soft metals, plating, anodizing, and cured finishes — brass (46801) or nylon (46804) for those.
  • Wet chemical work as a permanent home. Carbon rusts; the stainless and nylon fills take the wet without blooming.
  • Spark-controlled areas. Steel sparks — non-sparking work is brass or nylon.

How the pros run it

01

Cut with the tips, cover with the width

Let the bristle ends do the cutting across the broad face; don't mash the block flat, which folds the .35mm wire and wipes instead of cutting. Switch to the scraper on the signal — when the brush polishes instead of lifting, that's the cue to roll onto the nose, not to add downforce. Two hands for the big work — the offset handle is built to be driven; use the leverage. Eye protection, always — the wide carbon face throws a lot of rust, scale, and paint, and sheds broken wire. Respirator for the dust, especially on rust and any suspect old paint. Prime same-day. Dry it after use — carbon rusts; a rusted brush and scraper shed contamination into the next clean surface. Keep the whole tool off stainless and aluminum — scraper included.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
What's the scraper for?
Shearing what the bristles polish but won't lift — a scab of scale, a hard paint edge, a stuck gasket or deposit. Brush the field, scrape the holdout.
Can I use it on stainless or aluminum?
No — both the wire and the scraper are carbon steel and will embed iron that rusts or pits those metals. Use the stainless 46800.
46805 or the narrow 46802?
This one for broad flat fields and a scraper; the 46802 for reaching into tight steel. The 46806 is the thin-slot version with a scraper.
Why carbon over stainless?
Faster, cheaper cut on mild steel, where the iron it leaves doesn't matter. Stainless is for corrosion-critical metals and wet work.
Does it rust?
Yes if left wet — dry it after use so it doesn't bloom and shed contamination.
