How is this "self-retracting"?
The blade is out only while you hold the button; release it and the blade retracts on its own. A knife set down or dropped closes itself — that is the whole safety premise.
Why the 1/2" exposure — isn't more reach less safe?
Reach is matched to material, not to danger. The 1/2" variant is for genuinely thick goods — double-wall cartons, foam bundles, strapping — that a shorter blade rides over. For thin single-wall boxes, the shorter-reach 42065 protects contents better.
What does the round tip do?
It removes the point, so the blade cannot plunge or stab — no punctured product, no puncture wound. Keep it; the exposure figures assume a round-tip blade .
Why polypropylene instead of metal?
Weight. "Ultra Light" is a fatigue spec for high-volume all-day cutting; the die-cast 42065 trades that lightness for body durability.
Where do the blades come from and go?
In from the 42102 round-tip dispenser (issued one at a time); out to a sanctioned sharps container — the disciplined loop a safety program runs.
