✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
Wallpaper, cardboard, cartons, film, carpet, foam, tape — soft materials close around a scoring edge instead of chipping, so the 45730 simply drags and does nothing useful on them.
Every slicing knife in this line does the soft-material jobs, and this tool does none of them.
Conversely, none of those slicing knives does the brittle-sheet job well — forced into acrylic they crack it.
There is no material both halves cut well, which is exactly why the plastic cutter is a separate tool and not a blade option.
It is also not a saw: for thick acrylic, curves, or interior cutouts, a saw (or a router) is the tool; the 45730 is for straight score-and-snap breaks in sheet.
No — it does not slice at all. It scores a groove by removing thin chips, and you snap the sheet along that groove. Cutting by subtraction, not division.
Why can't I just use a utility knife on acrylic?
A wedge-shaped slicing blade splits brittle sheet, concentrating stress and cracking it where you don't want. The double-bevel scoring edge plows a groove without wedging, so the break is controlled.
How many passes and how deep?
Five to ten even, full-length passes to about a third of the sheet's thickness for acrylic; deeper for thin metal, which you then flex to fatigue-snap.
Will it cut boxes or wallpaper?
No — soft materials close around the scoring edge; it only works on sheet that chips and snaps. Use a slicing knife for anything soft.
What can it score besides acrylic?
Sheet plastics generally, laminated fiberglass (to protect the face from chip-out), and thin copper and aluminum sheet.
Any safety step I shouldn't skip?
