Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Not for breaking bonded ceramic tile out of thinset — impact demolition belongs to the struck hammer scrapers (19430/19440/19450); a standing low push planes, it does not shatter a bonded bed.
  • Not a struck tool, under the identity flag.
  • Not the tool to reach bare concrete — a cutback shadow soaked into the pores, thinset, or epoxy ends at a rented walk-behind grinder or shot blaster with dust extraction, not a hand scraper.
  • Not a close-quarters tool — the 48" handle is built for open-floor reach from standing; toe-kicks, perimeters, and tight rooms are the kneeling 19425's ground.
  • And never a substitute for abatement on suspect pre-1980s floors — the 2a boundary outranks every technique here.

How the pros run it

01

Stand into the push, low

Two hands on the 48" handle, body weight forward and down, blade 15°–30° off the floor so it planes the bond line and lifts a curl; the long handle is meant to take your weight through a low standing push, not an overhead swing. Ride the offset. The bend keeps the edge at working angle while your hands stay high and your back stays straighter — work with it. Wet is the method. Time softens the softenable adhesives, and wet work is the dust control the removal standard is built on; mist and re-wet rather than flooding a slab. Reverse before you replace. Flip to the second edge at the first skate a wiped blade won't cure; load a fresh #19453 when both edges are gone. A mill file between reversals may help ⚑("resharpenable" rides the family's contested identity row — reverse first, file as a maybe, pack as the plan). Never strike it. Per the identity flag, no copy here drives this tool with a mallet; it is a planing tool.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why does this page keep pointing to a sibling for facts?
Because the 19423's own research packet carries no official claims. Rather than invent specs, the guide grounds the 5" blade and 48" handle in the store title and everything else in the 19424 family record and the scrapers line doc — and flags exactly where it does so.
Offset scraper or hammer scraper?
Offset scraper — a bent-blade planing tool, per the corpus reading. The identity is flagged unresolved at the top; nothing here strikes the tool.
What blade does it take?
The reversible bright-plated #19453 5" blade, shared with the 12"-handle 19425. Reverse to the second edge; replace from the pack when both are gone.
When do I choose this over the 19425?
For open-floor adhesive work you'd rather do standing — the 48" handle spares your knees and back. Drop to the kneeling 12"-handle 19425 for perimeters, toe-kicks, and tight rooms.
The floor might be pre-1980s — is that a problem?
Potentially a serious one. The adhesive — cutback especially — can contain asbestos, and old slabs carry silica. Undocumented material gets sampled by an accredited professional before scraping; a positive result is an abatement job, not a scraping job.
