The contour scraper works as a pull tool in miniature

Use a steep presentation, draw the blade toward you, and keep pressure over the edge. For profile scraping, light passes work best. Profile scraping removes paint from shapes you want to keep crisp, and heavy pressure blunts detail even with a sharp edge. Let the matched profile ride the shape, work one element at a time instead of taking long strokes across the whole profile, and never twist or lever an edge sideways in a hollow. Side-load chips profile corners, and a chipped corner scratches every pass after. Change to the matching edge rather than forcing a near-fit. For any paint scraper work, treat pre-1978 coatings as lead: use containment and wet methods, and follow EPA RRP requirements for paid work. On 10460 heat-gun work, the RRP rule prohibits heat guns above 1,100°F on regulated paint (EPA — Lead RRP Program).
