  • If the job softens paint with heat, that is the 10460's job — same quick-release system, same 12-edge set, but on a 10" metal shaft built to take the heat.
  • Beyond that: not broad flat-field scraping (that's push/pull coverage work); not a pry or a knife; and not a tool to restock with the 10400's carbon blades ⚑.

Match the edge, then let it ride

The tool's whole advantage is edge variety, so use it — change to the shape that fits the profile element rather than forcing a near-fit. Pull, don't push; steep presentation, drawn toward you, light and repeated passes. Change on the signal: when an edge stops tracking its profile cleanly, flick to a fresh one instead of pressing harder — pressing a dull edge into a profile is how detail gets gouged. Mind the case: the storage case is part of the system — a loose pile of unguarded stainless edges is both a hazard and a lost-blade problem. And respect the heat limit in section 4.

Can I use it with a heat gun?
No — the 10450 is not heat-safe. For heat-gun stripping, use the 10460, which puts the same quick-release head on a heat-tolerant metal shaft.
How many blades and edges?
Six stainless blades, twelve scraping edges, in a storage case, changed by a tool-free quick-release lever.
What blades restock it?
The 10461 set (six stainless blades, two three-blade cases). Not the 10400's blades (10410/10420/10430) — those don't fit the quick-release head .
Why stainless?
Rust resistance for wet and solvent stripping — the blades rinse clean and won't bloom rust put away damp.
Is it better than the 10400?
Different: more shapes and faster changes, but the 10400 is heat-gun rated and this isn't. Match the tool to whether heat is in the job.

Hyde Tool's Pretty Good

Works pretty good on already brittle paint. Works best with an infrared paint stripper. What we need is smaller contour blades for ogee window trim. These blades are too big for that detail work. Maybe we bought the wrong set? We're making this set work for now.

Handle

I really like how well the scrapers work and all of the options. However, after 2 times using the tool the handle doesn’t seem to lock the scrapers securely.
