Let the shaft do the heat job

Keep the metal head in the hot zone and your hand back on the grip; the tool is designed so the two can be in different thermal worlds. Match the edge to the profile element and change on the signal — a dull edge pressed into a softened profile gouges the detail heat was supposed to make easy. Pull, light, sectional — the pull-stroke doctrine is the line doc's. Re-sharpen the stainless straight edges with a file rather than replacing prematurely, but retire an edge whose corner or curve has rounded past filing. And keep the heat below the RRP ceiling on any pre-1978 surface (section 2a).

What makes it "heat-safe" when the 10450 isn't?
The 10" metal shaft, which won't melt or warp in a heat gun's wash and carries the head out ahead of your hand. The plastic-bodied 10450 can't stand that heat.
How many blades, and are they replaceable?
Six stainless double-sided blades — twelve edges — in storage cases, swapped by a tool-free quick-release lever, and re-sharpenable. Restock: the 10461 pack (not included).
Can I run a heat gun as hot as I want?
No. On pre-1978 paint the RRP rule prohibits heat guns above 1100°F and open-flame burning — high-heat stripping of assumed-lead paint is regulated work.
Do the 10450's blades fit it?
Yes — both take the 10461 set. The classic 10400's blades (10410/10420/10430) do not fit either quick-release head .
Is the shaft for reach or for heat?
Both — it tolerates the heat and it gets the head to tall casings and stair work while your hand stays comfortable.
