Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Flexible Blade: Perfect for applying compounds, smoothing, and taping joints.
  • High-Quality Stainless Steel Blade: Hardened for durability and longevity. Rust-Resistant.
  • Versatile Use: Ideal for a range of tasks including applying and smoothing joint compound.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Fill and skim coats — 5 inches is a tape and second-coat width, and levelling a seam flat is 8"–12" work.
  • It is not the final feather-to-zero blade either; the extra-flexible ExtraFlex/SuperFlexx tier (the 6" stainless SuperFlexx™ 06857, for instance) is deliberately limper.
  • And the .055" blade, stout as it is, is not a demolition scraper.
  • Use it as the comfortable, rust-free middle of the seam sequence.

How the pros run it

01

Wipe

let the extra width carry the mud; a smooth, even pull meters the squeeze-out better than speed. Comfort: the overmold cushion is the point for all-day corner-and-seam work — palm the grip, finger down the spine for control. Maintenance: wash and rack; stainless asks only for a square edge, which a mill file restores. On the butt: Hyde's Pro Stainless™ materials name a Hammer Head®, but the line doc's Hammer-Head roster lists it only on the 8"/10" Pro Stainless™ blades, and this 5"'s listing does not carry one — so do not count on setting a popped fastener with this blade's butt (⚑); keep a hammer, or use a knife whose Hammer Head is confirmed (the 5" carbon 06771).

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why 5" instead of 4" or 6"?
More wipe than a 4", more control than a 6" in a corner — a common finisher's-preference width. (See §1.)
Does the double hollow-grind matter?
Yes — it gives stainless a tuned, carbon-like feathering flex without the rust. (See §1.)
Can I set a popped nail with the butt?
Not confirmed on this 5" — the line doc lists Pro Stainless™ Hammer Heads on the 8"/10" only. Don't assume it. (See §3.)
How does it compare to the 06779 and 06771 at 5"?
This is cushioned double-hollow-ground stainless; the 06779 is seamless one-piece stainless; the 06771 is carbon with a Hammer Head. (See §5.)
Fill coats?
No — 5" is a tape/second-coat width; fill and skim are 8"–12". (See §4.)
