How the pros run it

Angle

low, 15–30° — the blade shears, it does not chisel. Direction: push for power (the default for this stiff, straight-shanked form); the pull scrapers elsewhere in the line are the tools for planing coats off wood you intend to keep. Pressure: because the blade is stiff and wide, your body weight arrives across all four inches — good on a flat field, but on anything less than flat the corners lead and can gouge, so keep the tool square to broad work and step down a size for tight work. Edge care: dress the stainless edge square with a mill file when it rolls or dents; stainless takes a slightly less keen scraping edge than carbon and gives back the wet-work maintenance-free life in exchange. Strike discipline: the Hammer Head® is the only part built to be struck — use it to set fasteners, not to drive the blade through material.

Is this for scraping or for spreading compound?
Scraping. It is the stiff, removal side of the family; the flexible members spread.
Will it rust?
No maintenance ritual — the stainless blade meets wallpaper water and stripper sludge and dries clean. The carbon siblings (02600, 07410) file to a keener edge but must be dried and oiled.
What's the Hammer Head® for?
Resetting popped nails and dimpling holes as you scrape, so you don't carry a separate hammer up the ladder. It is the only part of the tool meant to be struck.
Why buy 4" instead of 3"?
Coverage on broad, flat, uniformly-failed surfaces. On anything narrower or curved, the 4" corners ride onto good surface — buy the size that matches the field.
Can I use it on old paint?
Yes, within the boundary below — and never as a fill or feathering tool.
