Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Stiff Blade: Designed for effective scraping of paint and putty.
  • High-Quality Stainless Steel Blade: Hardened for added durability and long-lasting performance. Rust-Resistant
  • Overmold Comfort Grip: Provides a secure and comfortable hold during use.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Filling and finishing. Stiff, wide, no flex, no apply role — despite any "flex point" wording in the family copy (⚑ inherited from the putty-knife line), this blade does not bow to lay compound down. Spackle and skim belong to the flexible joint knives.
  • Boundary-tracing small failures. Three inches bridges the line; drop to a narrower scraper to find it.
  • Struck rabbet work and prying. The Hammer Head® sets fasteners only; struck glazing demolition is the 40210 hacking knife, prying the 45600 bar.
  • The keenest dry-edge work. Where you want the sharpest, most-easily-refiled edge on dry old paint, the carbon 06401 files keener; stainless trades a little edge for no rust.
  • The exterior siding field pass on wood you keep. Push scraper breaks failures; the pull scraper planes the field.

How the pros run it

01

Grip and drive

overmold cushion in the palm, full fist for power, push from the shoulder. Angle: low, 15–30°, so the edge shears rather than chisels. The .055" section is a feature: it is stout — lean into it; this blade transmits push without flexing away from the work. Edge care: stainless holds up well but files a touch less keen than carbon and takes a little more work to bring back — dress it square with a mill file when it dents; the double-hollow-grind thins the steel behind the edge, which helps both the cut and the dressing. The stainless payoff: no dry-and-oil ritual — wipe it and rack it, wet or not. Hammer Head®: for setting fasteners and dimpling holes, not demolition, and never a license to strike the blade like a chisel.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Why buy stainless over the carbon 06401?
No maintenance ritual. For wet, washed, or chemical work the stainless blade wipes clean where a carbon blade would need drying and oiling to stay rust-free.
Does it flex?
The listing says "flex point." No — it's a stiff scraper. That phrase is inherited from Hyde's Pro Stainless putty-knife copy; on this tool the double-hollow-grind is about a cleaner cut and easier dressing, not flex.
How thick is the blade?
.055" — a stout, rigid scraping section that drives push straight into the edge without bowing.
06408 or the 4" 06579?
Coverage vs control. Broad flat wet fields → 4" 06579; general controllable wet scraping → 3" 06408.
Is stainless the same as the non-sparking brass scrapers?
No. Stainless resists rust; it does not make sparks safe. Volatile atmospheres require brass (06081/06421).
Lead paint?
Pre-1978 coats carry lead; dry-scraping is regulated, and wet methods (which this stainless blade is built for) knock the dust down. Paid pre-1978 work still means certification, containment, and HEPA cleanup — inherited line-level boundary, not re-verified here.
Does it flex? The listing says "flex point." No — it's a stiff scraper. That phrase is inherited from Hyde's Pro Stainless putty-knife copy; on this tool the double-hollow-grind is about a cleaner cut and easier dressing, not flex. - How thick is the blade?
