Carry a small bead on the tip-third; the work is a pocket, not a seam.

Place the point in the junction with the blade roughly bisecting the angle to wipe.

Draw outward
Pull two to four inches along each crease, easing pressure to feather into the normal coat.

Keep pressure behind the point
The point places; the converging edges and rear two-thirds finish.

High-carbon steel can rust when water-based compound remains on it.

Is this the tool for repointing brick?
No. Mortar work belongs to the pointing trowels (18100/18110) in the masonry line. Same word, different trade; this blade never touches mortar.
Pointing knife vs putty knife?
The putty knife is a small rectangle for flat work — nail holes, glazing bead. The pointing knife is a triangle for angles and pockets. Each prints its own shape where the other belongs.
Is the blade stiff or flexible?
Flexible — printed on the package. It is an application blade for pressing and smoothing compound, not a scraper.
How wide is the blade? What is the triangle's angle?
Hyde publishes neither. The catalog states blade length (3-1/2") and nothing else dimensional; one retailer lists a 60° angle, which appears in no Hyde source and is not published here .
Will it rust?
It can — high carbon steel. Wipe it clean and dry after compound work and it won't.
Why would I add the 6" clipped one?
Reach: deep slots behind radiators and pipe runs, longer crease segments per pass. Its tip is clipped, though — the 3-1/2" remains the only member that bottoms a three-plane pocket.
Can I finish whole corners with it?
No — it is the detail tool beside the corner method, not the method. Open runs belong to the 4" joint knife or a corner finisher; this knife takes the pockets and slivers they can't.
